RAW CalMag

In an effort to use more powdered nutrients and steer from liquids, I purchased NPK Industries RAW CalMag powder from Amazon. I did not read anything that said that the NPK on this is 9-0-0. I only realized that after I received it. In my mind, that is a very large N boost when added to the base nutes I am currently using (yes, they are still liquid AN Sensi Coco Grow). I know the Bloom City liquid CalMag that I had been using was only 2-0-0 so this would be a large jump. I also used a bag of Greenway Biotech CalMag powder. It was 2-0-0 as well. It performed adequately for me but I had issue with it never completely dissolving.

I am thinking that I should send it back. I do know that I am going to start using a reservoir irrigation system with a 50 gallon barrel and so maybe it would be useful for that?

I know that the three numbers is for Nitrogen/Phosphorus/Potassium but I truthfully don't really understand it and the application to cannabis. For example, I don't understand how the AN Grow A+B is 4-2-4 and the AN Bloom A+B is 4-4-5. I know you are supposed to increase the P and K during flower, which this formulation does marginally, but they keep the nitrogen the same from veg to flower... when I understand you are to all but eliminate N from the flowering fertigation solution after the second week or so of flower.

Anyway, Do you think I should send the powder back? Even with a reservoir system coming up?

Any good resources for learning NPK?

Thank you in advance

Yeah… If it all possible, I would like to stick with powders because of their decreased cost and environmental friendliness due to not going through a plastic bottle every couple weeks (20 plants in 7 gallon pots).

I would consider calcium nitrate and Epsom salts but I am honestly a little intimidated that I won’t be able to figure out the balance.

In the end, I may just have to stick with bottled Calma I would consider calcium nitrate and Epsom salts but I am honestly a little intimidated that I won’t be able to figure out the balance.

So how do you turn 9-0-0 into 2-0-0? Add water. Seriously, that's all it takes. Water is 0-0-0 and if you add it to a solution at 9-0-0 you will reduce the N as a concentration in solution.

You are buying powder because you don't want to be paying for water at scotch prices.

Mix it to your needs. But what you want to be mindful of is how much Ca and Mg you end up with in the end.

The reason there is N is because that's how they deliver the Ca and Mg. Probably a nitrate or nitrite.

Some math required. But chances are you can up with an equivalent version of bottled nutes with a little cypherin. But much cheaper.

What are the other specs for the product?

Here is the front and back of the packaging. It clearly says that the NPK is 9–0–0. It just wasn’t listed in the Amazon description and I failed to look at the pictures. I honestly thought that Cal mag was 2-0–0 across-the-board. That is on me.

I would certainly be willing to use this rather than send it back. I’m pretty damn good with math but I’m honestly not sure where to start with this. I tried to use my EC meter to figure out the concentration of the bottled Cal mag but the meter would not read it.

I completely agree that dilution will get me there. That was exactly what I was planning on doing with the EC meter. Just dilute down to the same reading as the bottled Cal mag. Unfortunately, that didn’t fly. Any ideas on how to go forward from here?

Clearly, this is a $20 envelope of salts. It is not going to break the bank. I am just now at a point that the envelope is supposed to teach me a lesson and I am ready to learn.

Keep in mind that regular cal-mag liquid is about 20% solids. So if you take 9-0-0 solids and make a strong solution, you’ll have duplicated predissolved cal-mag. It sounds like a good product to me from these sparse data.

The only RAW brand calcium I found on Amazon is a food supplement in capsules.

Calcium carbonate-based GH CaliMagic has a way higher EC than calcium nitrate based ones I've used, such as Botanicare and Greenstone. I guess it's because they're different minerals, and in a different ratio. 5ml/gal of cal nit based cal mag gives me an EC around 0.4 in RO water. With CaliMagic, 3-4ml/gal gives an EC of 0.6 or higher. I like the CaliMagic for flowering, but it's something to be aware of when you're mixing nutes.
