I thought I would continue our cold roots conversation here in random pics since there is no general topic.
The house I bought out here in the woods is old and has an open "Michigan" basement. Meaning it is not sealed. It actually has rock form and plaster in the old back part. And that is where I set up tent city to get started here.
At first in the beginning of winter last year my gauges were reading above 60 degrees during the dark period. But the plants were starting to look like this for no apparent reason.
I checked everything and could not track the cause. I had been harvesting his companies genetics from seed consistently with little issue for a year previously.
So I started scoping every day for bugs. Never saw any signs of any pest or mold or anything.
I got the first 2 rounds to harvest and the buds came out ok. But very purple and very low yield from stunted plants.
Funny. They were beautiful but stunted. Everyone was complimenting me. It was good smoke. But I was getting real worried. I had already spent all my money buying and fixing up the house!
Well I started an unfortunate last round down there. And my plants started off great but by the time I wanted to be flowering they looked like this.
So I tried measuring the floor temp a few different ways. I couldn't believe it. The canopy temp guage said 58 degrees.
But the remote guage I put under the intake vent right above the porous concrete floor now said 44.
And it was getting colder. So I built the room I have been showing in the spare bedroom upstairs next to the living room.
Here are early set up pics.
And that's how bad a cold floor can hurt your grow. Lesson well learned.
Hope someone else can benefit from my experience.
