Radio Shack Microscope??????

I just got one of Radio Shack's 60X -100X hand held microscopes with the light built-in.

Question: are there any tricks in using this little jewel while viewing the plant?

I imagine that cutting off a small piece and examining it on a table would be best, but I'm just interested in checking stuff out on the plants.

So far, just as I get a view either my hand moves or the plant moves, losing focus. So far I've only been able to get like 1 second shots.

Thanks!!

this thing is great .. i have one .. it;s amazing what the crystals look like so close

trick is getting the subject your are viewing to not move in and out of focus .. especially if u have a slightly unsteady hand .. i would just take a little pinch off the bud or a leaf in the bud to determine crystal color, etc. and place it on a table or something steady to view it on .. and just place the scope right above it and set focus

i cut a small leaf tip on the bud site and put it under a paper clip attached to paper and rest the scope on the clip so as not to disturb the triks by rubbing the scope all over the clipping

set it to 100x and manually move the scope up and down to focus- steady your hand with 2 fingers from the other hand. dont know how anyone can zoom in and out while maintaining steady hand. trichs will cloud up the bulb so take a razor to it every so often. and batteries drain fast. damn thing hurts my eyes after a while.

I returned mine. It just wasnt convienient enough to use. You have to get up too close to it to see anything.

I have one of these. Bought it back when I started growing. It works great, but I will agree it's a bitch getting focused on the trichs. It takes practice and a steady hand. I have snipped leaves off before and put them on a table to get it into focus. This thing has always helped me determine when to harvest because I found anything with a weaker magnification range doesn't allow me to see the trichs enough.

One thing I found that helps since it seems that the little light on it really sucks ass and dies so quickly, if you can find one of these mini flashlights with the bright white LEDs in them. I would take that in one hand and the scope in the other and then rest the arm i had the scope in against a wall or something. Then I shine the flashlight on the section I wanna look at. I am always able to get at least one clear glance at the trichs using this method. Any other time I felt that it was wayyyy too dark to even tell the color of the heads, especially under the golden HPS light.

All in all, once you get the hang of it, it works great. Just don't let any dick head touch it because people will see it and be like OOOHHH TOY!! and then they adjust your settings and that ends up wasting your time when you have to sit there and screw around adjusting it again.

PC scope <<<< Once this is perfected, watch out! Just daydreamin' the other night . . . the "best" ones are around $350.00.

The RS scope certainly does take some getting used to, but works ok. Also, the light eats batteries fast. Remove when not in use.

The best way to use a Radio Shack 60-100x pocket microscope is to remove the clear plastic stage. This leaves you able to get closer to the bud without needing to futz around with focusing, and it allows you to look around your buds on plants quicker.
