I've been growing right at a year, so I'm still an inexperienced grower. But you know what they say about a blind squirell Like the title says, get a sip, and kick up your feet
Setup: 4x4x6' Tent, Passive intake vents, Infinity T6 exhaust fan, pulling through a 6" charcoal filter. (2) 2'x4' fixtures: (4) qb120's on 320 watt driver / (10) Samsung H Series inFlux Strips on 320 watt driver. 36" tower fan and 8" fan circulating air at "ground" level.
There are 9 plants in the tent. In the dwc setup is a fem Doughlato from Archive. In the planter on the right, ive got 2 PHK x Durban up front, and 2 Clusterfuck in the back, both AK Bean Brains. Planter on the left has 2 Sweet Thang from Archive up front, and 2 Cantaloupe Haze x Genius Thai Americanna from AK in the back. All plants are from seed, germinated in jiffy pucks.
The real star of the show is the sub irrigated planter. Absolutely incredible. If you're like me, watering wasn't my strong suit. I didn't realize how bad I was at watering before using a sip. I would recommend this over anything for new growers. It's stupid simple. Fill up the reservoir with water, wait a couple days, repeat. I use something called a Patio Picker, $30 at Lowes/Home Depot. Holds about 10 gallons of soil, and around 3 gallons of water. ( I also have a 10 gallon dwc setup in this tent that I'm trying for for first time. )
Running a coots mix soil that I have been reusing and reammending for almost a year. When I got the sips, I wanted a complete dry ammendment mix that I could mix or trench into the soil. Read good things on here about Dr Earth, and it was available locally. Went with the Home Grown mix (4-6-3) Looking at the package, I liked the ingredients, and the fact that is has microbes and mycorrhizae. It really woke my soil up, and the plants freaking love it. I mixed it into my soil at 1/4 strength before I filled the planters. I added a couple tbsp of agsil, a tsp of big 6, malted barley, and watered it in with humic acid.
Here is day 1 in the planters.
Day 10
Topped them on day 15
Things are really moving by day 20
Day 29, 4 days after the flip
Day 33, 8 days into flower
Right around the time I flipped, I top dressed each planter with Dr Earth Flower Girl at 1/2 recommended rate, and watered it in. Lots of root action on the surface. And worms!! Lots of worms. I believe these are red wiggles.
Speaking of worms, these sips are mini worm farms. My first couple runs, after harvesting the plants and cleaning everything, I found the reservoirs about half full of soil.
Im guessing the worms worked their way down through the soil, and dropped down into the reservoir, and brought soil with them. It was like a worm factory down there. Rich, black soil, with hundreds and hundreds of worms. So now I have been using landscaping fabric, on top of the plastic shelf with holes. Hopefully prevent the reservoir from filling up so much.
That's it for now. I'm loving this simple, and cost effective method
