so if I'm going to germinate some seeds in a solo cup with some soil do i need water holes on the bottom of the cup? I plan to transplant into 7 gallon smarts after about 2-3 weeks?

Yes u want drain holes, I put several holes in mine..

how do you do it? what is your process?
I germinate indoors. All I do is put my custom soil in the cup and bury the seed 1 cm in it. I then put 1 cfl light above it and place some paper covering half the cup so its not direct light on the soil surface. Imo its best to plant the seed into its final pot to reduce transplant stress. That's how nature does it she just drops the seeds in the soil.
