Day 35 veg. About how high should my light be from my plants? My plants are about 20 inches. Not too sure on how high I keep the light. And do I adjust as they grow? Thanks guys!

what hood? do you have a meter of any kind? lux maybe? What is it at now?

I always ran mine as close as I could without causing any issues with hid lighting but that's a fine line. Yes always adjust up as they grow keeping the same distance but that I cant say for sure what distance with the information given.

Probably closer, those plants are pretty small for over a month of veg. Look healthy though.

Easy trick to test, put your hand directly under the bulb at plant level (tippy top of plant), if you hand feels luke warm you should be good, any hotter is bad. I adjust almost exclusively with the hand test and depending on what the plant is telling me. I've bleached a few tops when beginning but it's all a learning experience.

Maybe those distances to cover the footprint of the reflectors, but you can get your plants much closer without any problems.

For the most part I keep my 1000 watters at 18 inches to get the correct footprint from the reflector. But I've often had my plants grow into the 12 inch range and it's all good, besides the fact that I'm not getting the 5x5 or 4x4 I should be getting.

Don't know where these 600hps distance is coming from, op has 400 hps lol he said that twice...

^^ his advice is sound buddy and hand test is a must especially if you don't have a fan above (between light and canopy)

Good luck mate:bigjoint:
