Quick Electrical Question!!!!!

How's it going ladies and gent's? Been lurking on this here forum for a while now, gathering info and what not. And feel the need to finally come out of the shadows! So I'm looking to experiment with some cfl's, and I found a brand new dual light fixture in the basement. Upon taking it apart I noticed that it has the usual white/black wires, but the ground is connected right to the base of the fixture itself. And the fixture WILL NOT fit in my "cab". So my question would be can I wire these bad johnny's up to some lamp cord? Or no because of the ground? Any help is greatly appreciated!

BTW this forum is the shit lol!!!

Just make sure to keep water away from it, and that the lamp cord can handle the load. If the cord gets warm/hot... get a better cord.
