Questions I couldn't find answers to

Simple and stupid questions for those who have worked with this stuff but I am new to aircooled hoods and have two questions. 1. Can you adjust the height of the hood once it hooked up with ducting being aircooled and 2. will it cool the light at all if I run the inlinefan (sucking) out the tent without the glass on the hood or will I not get fast enough airflow to properly cool the bulb. I'm running a 600 watt hps in a 60x48x24 inch tent. I only got a 4 inch 190 cfm inline with the carbon filter combo. I was going to go filter>hood> ducting>out tent>fan. Input as always is appreciated and will giv rep likes etc for decent answers. Questions again more simply once you set up ur aircooled hood can you change the height and will it still cool somewhat without the glass. Thanks

Yes you can change the height if you have enough ducting, and you will need to keep the glass on the hood; also you fan is most likely not big enough to properly cool a 600W lamp.

I'd imagine you'll still have air moving without glass but it will more just blow heat all over your room. You can adjust your hoods after exhaust is hooked up, just make sure u don't buy venting that can't move you would need the kind that's real flexible. Also 4 inch may work for now but def acquire a 6 inch fan. Max fan makes some awesome inline fans.

Not having the glass on the hood would also defeat the purpose of the filter as air would be pulled from the tent through the open hood instead of the filter. No scrubbing at all.

Even if im pulling the air over the light and out the tent not pushing it you think it'l leak a lot of heat that way?

I don't know if a bigger fan is an option, but I can tell you what I'm workin with. Bear with me, it may be hard to explain. I have a 6" inline fan sitting on top of my tent. As soon as it goes inside it hits a Y. The first half of the Y fitting just has a small piece of ducting on it extending it. It pulls all of my air out of the tent, I guess you could try hooking up your filter here. But I don't know if your fan is strong enough. The other half of the Y runs directly through my hood, with the glass on, then out of my tent and out into fresh air.

I explained it backwards but im basically pulling air from 2 places with one fan. Fresh untouched air from outside through my 1000 watt hps, and the air from inside my tent. I wanted to just use a reflector wing, but heat was an issue. I set up a dry run and temps hit 110 degrees. In my situation, I have an entire room for growing. And I wound up just hanging my carbon filter on a 6" fan that I have to exhaust the whole room. And I exhaust the tent right next to it. That way I don't have to worry about whatever smell escapes the tent every time I open it. And my whole room is going to smell when it comes time to chop down and trim. I don't have any clear pics of it, but maybe I can get some when it's time for the lights to come on, the ladies are sleeping.

I'm new at this myself. I tried to research as much as I could before I started, but I'm still getting curveballs. You can check out my journal if you want. I'm just about a month and a half in from starting with clones. Good luck with your grow man.

Here's a picture of what I was talking about. My fan is sitting up on top of my tent. You can see where I'm pulling air from the inside of the tent. Maybe this is where you can connect your carbon filter. But the other side is pulling fresh, cold air from outside of my house and through the hood. Hope this helps.

you need a real fan dude. No iffs and buts about it.

The Tjernlund 6" inline fans made on the east coast and sold on ebay are the best damn fans I have ever run fro the money. Can fans are very nice as well, they are just too damn expensive. tjernlund makes fans for all kinds of hvac stuff, they know their fans.

strong, quiet, and reliable.
about $120 for a 6"
