Questions for dirt bike owners

My apartment lease is gonna be up soon and im not gonna be renewing shit or paying rent this month or next month so I will have some money stacked up and I have enough food already so I really dont gotta spend money on anything I will have about a stack saved up for this.Im looking to buy a new dirt bike around Febuary or March.Im looking for some tips on when going to buy one I will be getting a used one more then likely so what should I look out for when buying one used basically to see im not buying a piece of shit?

Can I get something decent for this much?

What is better 2 or 4 stroke or is there no difference?

Im trying to get something fast.
So how many cc's should I be looking into?

I know how to ride im just not really knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff.

I wont be able to ride it for awhile though because house arrest but when I do the majority of the place it will be ridden on is the street,should I eventually buy some street tires?I dont wanna hear bitching about riding on the street the cops dont give a fuck around here they got more problems to worry about.

And any additional tips are greately appreciated.

get yourself a trail bike, something that is street legal and you can ride on the trail. watch for worn chains and sprocket, check for wear and loose bearings at pivot places. look for aftermarket welding on the frame. hope this helps

I like 2 stroke better, more punch.

if your gonna be riding on the street though, you'll want a dualsport.they suck in the trails though

If your gettin a bike exclusively for the street get an older honda XR 600 or 650 or 400, whichever size you want. The dual purpose bikes are more forgivin than a bike like mine. If you get a two stroke and plan to ride ito nthe street at all time most likely you will top out quicker so get a small back sprocket ( 44 teeth) and front sprocket ( 15 or 16) this way youll be geared for more top speed.

The second post, those are some good things to look out for. Also if the tires or worn when you go to purchase the bike ask them to lower the price ( tell them ull have to purchase new tires)

Also, look on craigslist.org

every single bike or car i have ever bought or sold i found on craigslist.org, just make sure you dealwith people locally and go look at the bike well, take a buddy with you that knows something about them also. I always took my dad.

800-1000 wont get you a new bike but you can get an older 2 stroke 250 or mid aged 125 2 stroke for around that price. You coudl also find an older dual sport.

If i were you I would get a honda cr 125 or any type of older 2 stroke. look for the years between 97-2001. 2 strokes are fun to ride and a 125 def has some punch to keep you on the edge if your not a full time racer.

good luck man, ive been riding for years. Also, ask about the maintenance on the bike and how often and what has been done, if you get a 2 stroke ask them how many hours are on the current top end, if they say more than 45 or 50 then you will have to replace it soon. Try to get records of any maintenance also.


Dont buy the bike if you think its stolen or if they guy does not know anything about the bike. If he doesnt know anything about the bike it isnt his, plain and simple

Just did seen some nice ones up there.I already got 800 saved but might wait and try and grab something new for around 1500 now.Didn't really see nothing that nice for 800 on CL though.Been looking at honda crf150's thats what a friend has and I love it but he wont sell his he only bought his for 1000 witch seems real good but I think its stolen thats why he got it so cheap so in the mean time im gonna try and get him to sell it for like 900 I dont think he even rides it anymore.

Don't quite enjoy the seat height... never think "It's only a 250" when you jump on a 2-stroke though... it runs like a 750!

Which is hard to learn on the first rip of the throttle...

I was thinking about getting a sport bike but decided on the dirt bike because we got these trails behind a airport were im at also.I seen a crack head I thought was dead today and he pulls up on a kawasak i dont know what it was might of been a 750 but it was nice.He'strying to sell me it for 1000 but I know that shit was stolen he was flying on that thing didn't look like he could really ride it right though he'll probably end up crashing that shit and fucking it all up.And I'll post some pics when I get it my friend got these trick vids doing a bunch of crazy shit with wheelies and jumps he got one when he's flying down i95 leaning back with no hands wheelieing he held it up for a while to,he's fucking nuts.I'll ask him if I can post his vids up here He might not want his face up allover a pot growing forum lol.
