Questions About Lights And Bulbs?

okay so i have a 1000 watt hsp conversion bulb and i put it in a 400 watt mh ballast which is brighter standerd 400 watt bulb or the 1000watt bulb? from what i know you can put a bigger bulb in a smaller ballast no problem. and my other question is how should i arrange my lights i have x3 400 watt mh/hps x1 400 watt mh ballast and x1 1000 watt mh ballast. i want to have 2 rooms. the only reason conversion bulb is a 400 ballast i cuz i dont think its in quality shape and i feel it would be wastefull to put it in 1000 watt abllast need help plz all advice welcome. except fo the ones where i spend money right now

NEVER USE A LARGER BULB IN A SMALLER BALLAST.



You can get dimmable ballasts that allow lower wattage lamps to run in them. I have a lumatek 600 dimmable that i can use a 400w lamp in if i require or i can dim down my 600w to 400w or even 300w and it has a super lumens switch to kick it up to around 660w

why the city does it all the time street lights are 600 watt ballast or 400 watt ballasts but the city uses 1000 watt bulbs because they will only be running at 6040% power meaning a longer life span. thx anyways i need some input from someone who has done this type of thing. i know you can run a larger bulb in smaller ballast(allow more time to ignite and become steady) but i want to know what the downsides are as far as colour spectrum and lumen output ect or if it is better all round to use larger bulb. that dial a watt dimm a watt shit suck it kills light bulbs it alters the frequency of the electricity and the bulbs were designed to run at a specific frequency. although super lumens isnt bad because it is only a 10% difference compared to dimming a 400 down to 250 w/o changing bulb to a 250. dim-a-watt=light killer

as stated above - NEVER USE A BULB WITH A HIGHER WATTAGE THAN BALLAST!
while it may work for some people it all depends on the bulb and ballast.
some ballasts may take it - some may not.
remember SAFETY FIRST.
is it worth risking your house going up in flames?
and after that seing a fireman explaining to police officer - well we think it all started here.... one look at whats left of your grow room and you have lots of explaining to do.
as i said - it may work for some. you can't be sure it will work for you.
the ballast will generate a lot more heat for sure

sorry 2 interrupt, im new here so i dont know how to even ask a question w/ out barging into somebodys conversation. Anyways, could somebody please help me out. Im wondering if old hps bulbs could diminish the quality of my buds. im having complaints that people arent getting as high as they did before. (i know, i know tolerance lol) anyway, i cant figure out what im doing differently, besides maybe the bulbs are old??????Any answers?

2 people already told you that you shouldnt put a higher wattage bulb ina smaller ballast...and ill make 3...seems you bumbed out cuz you didnt get the answer YOU wanted to hear....do what you to do at the end of the day..but when you have problems dotn whine and say nobody told you so

Yes you should change yur bulb every so often...the spectrum deminishes as do the lumen outputs with age
