those are scales. the "trichs" are the honeydew. come-on, click the link....Scale Insects
your getting a hummer from a turkey.hmmm my sarcasm doesnt come over well on the computer lol.
they pretty much don't move. maybe if you look at them under a microscope. i've had them before on my lemon tree. they moved about 1/4 of an inch in a couple weeks. i ended up plucking them off and they never came back.I missed the "Scale insect" post by OpenDNS (thanks for that). I'm pretty convinced that you are correct in your evaluation. [wouldn't it be cool if I was the "Pot Patrol" and I gave you a huge, awesome prize for your diagnosis/prognosis in an effort to keep the growing community on it's toes with disease and such...]
I plucked a few into this test tube. As I uprighted it and they tumbled down they dropped these pods/sacks.
Judging by these photos would you agree that this is the same scale insect? None appear to have moved in any way.
Thanks guys/gals
don't they have "peckers"?i would say they do look a lot like those scale things in that link. fdd saves the day once again haha. i love hummers from turkeys. they dont need jewelry or wreck my car hehe.
omg you are right am i gay??don't they have "peckers"?
Any opinions on best way to remove, or should I start over?
THis plant has been growing for about a year under 24hr uvb reptile bulb. It was in a very small pot and rootbound. I transferred it with old and new soil couple weeks ago and added 3 more UVB lamps and a fan. It began to grow decently. Stalk has thickened and the newest leafs are fairly deep green and healthy looking, but these things arrived also.
Start over with some seeds. If this plant only grew 24" in a year its had a very bad life. If you replace the uvb lights with cfl's you could have a seed grow 24" in like two months. Is it better to begin with seeds now, or nurse this 24" plant back to health? I enjoy growing things so the efforts are no factor, I'm just wondering if I'll get better taste/potency from a newer plant? I don't even know if this is male or female either...
