i got 3 strains on monday the 25th and immediatley placed them into the fridge until wednesday for inocculation of my jars.

when i opened the package and removed the syringe, there was black specs floating in the solution.

IS THIS NORMAL?

HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE?

SHOULD I BE CONCERNED?

but they did not go away.

i shook them pretty vigorously and could not get them to dissolve completely.

i guess i will know relatively soon like in a couple of days if i did it all right.

of course i will post results, good or bad

from what I've read, spore syringes should be fine even if you put them in the fridge. I know those little black things are spores. They are probably just dense syringes, which is why they don't seem to go away. My syringes all have little specs in them too. No worries they are still viable.

i guess we will all know in a few days.

i am hoping for much more incredible results than my first time thru. i was much more clean and meticulous in my prep and inocculation.

well for info purposes, good or bad i will post results.

thanks
for the support

I will also be watching this! I don't grow mushrooms myself, I am planning on starting some up in a few months when my living situation changes. I'll be studying up until then!

OMG there's spores in your spore syringe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11one
so obviosly there needs to be some clarification.

if you look back at some of my other threads, you will see my first pathetic grow of cambodians.

although i did get 20-30 mushrooms for a very pleasurable time, i could not get a second flush. and this was off 4 out of 10 cakes.

NOW when i ordered those syringes, i inspected them and DID NOT NOTICE anything floating in them.

these are spores i ordered from spores101 not something i made.

i am just not familiar with the syringes enough to be sure if they got comtaminated on they way due to heat.

"did ya plug it in"

I hear ya, man. If someone hadn't just answered the question when I got there I would have just answered it and been on my way, but since the thread had already served its purpose, but was still up top, I decided to make a stupid joke.

And i'd do it again!

same here, jackonthebox!

Except I've already ordered and recieved a spore syringe, I have 12 1/2 pint wide-mouth jars, and a bag of organic brown rice flour. :D My suggestion is to start checking around and looking for supplies, that way when you move to a place with a spare room or basement, you're ready to go.

If you're moving to a place with a spare room or basement, and you want to grow mushrooms in it, the last thing you need is BRF.

Get some poo, some straw, some coir, some birdseed, a PC, and a 30 gallon rubbermaid tub x as many as you can fit. Do one run and be set for years of personal use for you and your friends. I don't want a small, high-maintenence perpetual mushroom farm in my closet, and you shouldn't either. Wouldn't you rather do a run a year or something?

but if the recipes are correct in what they state, then the number of flushes off one cake could potentially be yearly to a point.

if it takes a cake 4-6 weeks to grow and fruit and 2-4 flushes are achieved, then that could last 1/4 to 1/2 year on one cake.

if done meticulously enough with regards to sterilization a 3 or 4 flush of 12 cakes would be plenty for the year.

my first round was ok but nothing compared to the pictures of the strains that they have at shroomery check out the different strains, then find the pictures of those strains on cakes. someone knew what they were doing to get those numbers off cakes.

do 12 jars and inocculate 1 every week for 12 weeks then you could have personal mushrooms all year for one batch of steaming.

plus i got enough CAT shit in the basement to smell no need to add to it.

One flush is usually around 50grams wet. Which is two grams dry. So you basically get a dose to a dose and a half every two flushes. Three doses off of a cake is hard to achieve. So, you're right. Most people won't trip more than 30 times in a year and 12 cakes, if they all yeild three to four large flushes could last a year.

I like to trip with someone, or a group, so I need sometimes five or six doses for an experience, plus I like to hand them out and give away jars on birthdays and shit :P

I just do a monotub and then do another one when I run out. I guarantee if you use sterile procedures a monotub grow is less labor-intensive than getting 12 cakes to flush once.

Can you help me set up a stealth mushroom grow? How much spare space is needed? My friend was the one who suggested I find a place with a basement, not me. Is it possible to grow it in a small area of your bedroom?

I'm just talking about the PF Tek method. I'd love to grow bulk, but I have never grown before and need to start somewhere. Help! :D
