hey hey riu,
short version :
do i need to rebuffer coco coir if it hasn't been used?
long version:
a few months ago i was going to run some coco coir in a bucket setup, i buffered all my coco in the 3x strength cal mag solution, then drained and repeated letting it soak for 24ish hours in between soaks.
had some stuff come up and it all got sat to the side narry to be used again... or was it?
I'm about to fire the bucket system up again just cause i have it and will have the space in another location to have it run automatically for us
before i go rebuffer the cocoa for a third and then 4th time, do i even need to?
the coco wasn't used after the buffering, it just sat in net pots and dried out. I'm thinking i should just have to rehydrate it and it should be good to go right?

Weak nute solution........you've already charged it with calcium and magnesium.
Contrary to what the above poster said........DO NOT run water through the coco. :wall:
should i not flush cocoa with water? is it because of the water retention properties? the EC levels? or another reason?
(net swipe) - - - - -Due to the strength of some of the bonds made between the ions and the media, washing can’t eliminate all of the salt in the coir, but buffering can. does your answer relate to this statement? trying to learn broski ty

Running plain water through coco messes up the cation exchange capacity. If you don't over feed (strong nute solution) and always feed to substantial run off, you should never have to flush coco........feeding daily to run off replenishes the nutes, pulls in fresh oxygen to the roots, and prevents salt build up. If you ever need to flush........always use a light nute solution........never, ever plain water. Hope that helps.

yes that helps bro thanks for that, in this instance im not actually trying to flush tho, am just rehydrating, but i see how the principle you mention wouldnt change,
i just wondered if id have to rebuffer, but that info helps alot
at this point im just going to rehyrade the coco in 6.0 ph'd water , i wont be putting plants into the coco for a few weeks still. im just planning at this point. also the coco in questiojn has never been used, so it requires no flushing, is still inert coco and perlite with the calmag buffer
