Question on electrical grounding

First let me show you what I have built.

26" X 20" CFL Reflector

10 Sockets

Question:

As you can see I am using two wire sockets.
I will be connecting them in 2 series of 5 lights using 12/3 MN-B Indoor wire with ground.

My question is, can and should I attach the ground wire to the galvanized fixture? There is no ground wire on the sockets, so as you would wire a light switch the ground is attached to the switch holder in the wall, wouldn't you attach it to the fixture itself?

What do you think?

Thanks,

GR

that black clip on the sockets is what grounds the sockets to the hood, so, grounding the hood itself will ground everything! nice looking hood by the way! i see your a sheet metal fab guy as well

Thanks I am about as much of a metal fab guy as I am an electrician. I bought my uncles house and cottage business a couple of yrs ago and he had a sheer and brake, that I use in the biz, but it is not sheet metal. He also had lots of different grades of metal so I taught myself some things. It came out alright. Going to post the pics in DIY later tonight.

More work than I thought, and will use it on this grow until I get my LED then It will be used for the mothers and clones.

who the fuck told u that? lol
u can and should only ground material that is conductive and a light socket is not conductive! the spiral thread and the prong in the middle is but that is all. porcelain and plastic are insulators.

op, yes you should ground the metal hood, if a wire comes loose and makes contact with it it will become live and without a reference to ground u will not blow a fuse or breaker so that hood will stay live and depending if there is something else attached to it the metal could conduct electricity elsewhere whit a possibility of starting a fire.

if its metal and it has electricity in it or around it, ground it.

that is a great looking reflector for sure!
i wouldnt put mnb into the enclosure with those sockets, that wire isnt rated for the temp's that box will have. what u should do is put a hole for a box connector on the top of the fixture and put a junction box there then just pull the socket leads into the jbox where its safe to make your connections.
