Question on Cloning

Hey Guys, I have a question about cloning. I am currently on my third set of clones for my SOG. I take 16 clones at a time, and require 12 to fill up each chamber. While I have a 100% success rate on my clones, (something that shocks me) the time frame is off by a week. Currently it is taking 3 weeks for a good root system to develop, and I really need them to be ready in two weeks. I run four chambers under my 600 watt HPS and the strains I am using (cheese and Big Bang) are ready in eight weeks. I spray the sites from which I intend to take the clones from with Clonex the day before I cut them, and foliar feed them with clonex every day (just a light mist in the morning) for the first week. During week two, I switch to a mild FloraDuo three part with 1 ml A, 1 ml B, and .5 ml CalMag per gallon, which provides a tds around 280. Anyone know how to speed up the root building process? I know at the end of the second week they have roots inside the grow medium, just not showing an abundance outside of it. Thoughts??

You can try spraying kelp water on mother for 3 days before clones are cut. Also water new clones with kelp... I don't have any experience with chemicals sorry... Hope it is of some help

Admortis,

To me it sounds like you are doing a good job.

A lot of growers will say they get roots in less than 10 days.

But it sounds like you are asking about an established root system that when planted is going to take off immediately.

I think you will have a tough time cutting any time off what you are already saying you are getting.

The rooting time from strain to strain does vary but at best from what you are saying.

Even if you chose to switch strains we are only talking about 3 days or less.

The quickest stain to show roots I ever grew was Barney Farms Pineapple Chunk it would show Roots in 6 or 7 Days but even this strain would vary depending on the pheno type.

So what I am saying is yes a clone can show roots in 10 days but it is still going to be another 10 to 14 days after this before it starts showing major new growth.

Thanks for the input, and you are correct; I expect very fast growth from my clones. When I take them out of the clone chamber I place them right under the 600 watt hps on a 12/12 timer and see tremendous growth. The first week I see six to ten inches of growth and by the end of week two they have stretched to around 14-18 inches and have the start of buds. The whole purpose behind wanting them in two weeks is to have the "perpetual sea of green," with a harvest every two weeks. I think possibly I need to add a potash treatment but was not sure if that would help or hinder; it is way too easy to over do it with nutes. BTW, I will show some awesome pics for this new setup, but am holding out until the chamber is full so peeps can see how awesome this setup works..I am loving it for sure..:)

So you use a clone machine? Some strains do take longer to root, I call them stubborn strains. But I usually am able to transplant in 10 days or so. I use a Small bubble cloner, change the water (plain tap water no pH or anything) every few days. At day 5 I use rapid root from gh nutes. By day 7 I have roots and by day 10 I have decent roots. I don't mist them or anything like that. By day 12 they show vertical growth and at 2 weeks they are vegging. I don't use any root gel either. Maybe when you're flowering give a few different cloning styles a try and see which one is quicker.

My method is this:

Clean cloner and scissors
Take cuttings
Recut cutting at 45 degree angle under water
Let cuttings sit in water for a mminute
Scrape the bottom inch of the stem
Put in cloner that's filled with tap water
Change clone water at day 3 or 4
Add GH rapid root nutes
Then transplant at day 10-12

I use x2 24watt floro shop light @ 12" above cloner

That's it.

Hope you can reach your cloning goal.

Thank you for your input AlphaPhase, I see two things I am not doing that I will add into my process (scraping the bottom inch and adding GH). When you say to scrape the bottom inch are you exposing the inner pulp all the way around with like a potato peeler? The rapid root you mention, is that mostly a potash treatment?

Here is a few pics of my girls that are currently under the 600 watt HPS at two weeks and one day.

i've used h&g's roots excelurator many times. i noticed quick root system results every time. down side, it's very expensive! someone mentioned that the ingredient leopardite (or something like that, lol) was the thing that really gets the roots going.
