i started germinating a few seeds my friend gave me(dont know what type they are), one of them has sprouted and is ready for planting, i have a pot ready but i only have a bag of compost from the local supermarket, would that be fine for the seedling untill i get time to go get decent soil :)

hey there!
let me see if i can help a bit.
i'm not a compost guy, its not really worth the hassle for me, however, some people swear by it, as if you make your own its extremely cost efficient.
With that being said, i can tell you that you should NOT put seeds directly into compost. you'll burn your delicate tap root almost instantly. what i would do is let it germ for a couple of days until you can get some proper soil.
IMHO i would deep 6 the bag of compost all together and invest in a good fert line. a good idea is to find a local indoor garden or hydroponic shop. as long as your low key and only talk about the strawberries you're growing they'll let you ask as many questions as you want.
I hope that helps, i'm glad to answer any questions as well.

You can let the taproot stay under a wet paper towel for up to 4-5 days. Just do that, and go to the store already, yea? :)
