Question for outdoor ground growers

Im planning on doing an outdoor grow in the ground for the first time. The ground is pretty sandy and has horses dumping on it often. I plan on putting some plants that are about a foot tall out there in the next few weeks. Im gonna dig my holes fill em up with Roots orgranic soil mix in some lime and let them go. I need some suggestions on how much im actually gonna need to get them nutes in the ground. I have alot of old fox farm nutes laying around i could use. I mean obviously im not gonna need to feed them as much as i do in pots..

im looking for anything here really dont know what im getting into ground wise. maybe make references to growing inpots could also help. thanks

Bigger the holes, the bigger the plant is able to get.. Also, take in consideration on how often you are going to be able to visit plants.. If you cant look at them till every month or every few weeks then i think ammending the top with bat guano's are the way to go..

i asssumed the plant would grow into the surrounding soil too? no? the plant can be visited everyday...are you sugguesting teas then? more detail would be appreciated

If you can visit everyday I would probably use fox farms line-up of nutrients.. And the roots of the plant have a hard trouble of getting into the compacted dirt around the hole.. I would probably dig a hole about 2x2x2 or 3x3x3 even would be better.

if thats the case why not just put them in big ass pots..reallly doesnt make sense to me? i guess i dont get the advantages to it now

The earlier post is right on the money ... what ever size hole you dig will determin how fat your plant will get . Nature will take the easiest course and the roots will curl back into the loose soil you put into the hole . To prevent this - after you dig your hole ... break up the soil around it for at least 2 foot ... 3 is better but its a pain in the ass . the deeper the better .. as deep as your hole if you can . If you dont do this you may as well leave them in a pot or 5 gallon bucket because the results will be about the same ... wich isnt really a bad thing either .. its the natural sunlight and elements that makes outdoor bud good - soil is either good or not so good be it in a bucket or the ground .

The surrounding soil CAN take roots, even if it is somewhat compacted. IMO the greatest benefit is Cool root temperatures and the surrounding soil's ability to regulate moisture....hard to overwater and the surrounding soil is a huge source of moisture in a pinch.

I use FFOF or promix mixed with worm castings and some natural soil(about 20 %) in 2-3 ft sq. holes and i am very happy with the results
