Question for men

I was reading a yahoo article about women giving up their last names when they get married. But then I had a thought. How do men feel about their wives taking their last name? Is it important to you? How would you react if she kept her maiden name or made a hyphenated last name?

Alot of women on the article said that they felt like they shouldnt have to, that they were losing themselves if they did, but what do you think?

food for thought

It would be very important to me, it signifies ownership, the only way I wouldn't expect a woman to take my name would be if she was rich and important, like if I married Oprah, then I would change my name I would go by Beardo Winfery- And change my legal name so it would be Jeremy Winfery.

I like my last name and I want to spread it. She can do what ever but our kids will have my last name. If her parents wanted their last name to continue on they should have kept trying for a boy like I would.

why is it important for your children to have your last name but not a wife?

So my blood/last name lives on........really that's all.........that's very important to me.....but a woman....my woman, if she loves me and I love her what does a last name change.......

idk, i mean, its a hard choice to make. If your a girl you're brought up to expect that your name will change as you get married. But at the same time you are deeply attached to your family's name, the one you grew up with. so, short of hyphenating it or keeping your own name, you kinda lose that bit of yourself. but hey, if the women in my family were brave enough to take my often butchered last name, i can be brave enough to take on a new one

If your going to make something of yourself, work and make a lot of money and build a name for yourself, then you can keep your name
If your going to find a successful man and marry him and expect to stay home or work a meeningless job or something like that, then you take his name, and keep the dishes done and the house clean and make sure to have sex with him at least six times a week- and that's a slow week...

lol that made me laugh. i hate hyphenated names, and honestly, as much as my last name is a part of me, if i ever become a professional, it will be butchered by every single person. I understand its a german last name, but seriously, how do you butcher a 5 letter last name?????
