Question about THC degradation.

How is it that THC degrades after harvest if it is exposed to light? Technically, everything before harvest involves intense light to actually grow the plant. Wouldn't the light start to degrade the Trichomes when the plant is growing if it does the same thing even if the plant is chopped?

I just thought about this. Uncle Ben said that he finds there is no reason to put buds in darkness to dry. Does it actually even matter if you dry them in light or not?

Thats a good question i wonder that too.. Maybe just in the dark will slow the drying process a little more than if it was in direct light, not sure but just a thought :weed:. Im not sure about the THC content though i would like to know the answer about that one, anyone?

everyone says that thc degrades in the light.
i think the darkness is to help the bud dry slower as there is generally more humidity during darkness and less heat.
on my next crop i may do a side by side comparison to see the effects. i may even just keep a smallish bud hanging in my spare room where my dry box is not dark but not too light .

i personally will use the method of darkness that i have read from the many exp growers on RIU. but not on my little bud so that i can see.

i would assume the light doesnt effect it in the grow room because the production of thc is powered by the plant which is still growing

What Iv heard and what I guess I believe now is that, trichomes are always degrading during the light cycles and then at night is when they reproduce everything it lost and so much more. It is also what Iv heard to be the reason people will leave the plants in the dark for a day and a half sometimes at the end of harvest to give them nothing but 36 or so hours of nothing but trichome producing, giving them higher thc levels. I believe it has something to do with light acting as energy for spores in the air which in turn can break down the thc and/or cause mold or fungus on your buds. At least that is what I think....

I was told it needs to be in the dark so it can convert remaining chlorophyll into sugars or THC or something. Don't quote me on that though. I just make sure its out of direct light in a well ventilated area.
