Question about outdoor MONSTERS

Hello all,

I've been researching outdoor growing a good bit over the past year or so, and it looks like my time *might* finally be coming up in 2016.

Its probably very ambitious, but I want to give myself enough room to produce plants in the range of 5-10 pounds. I've read several growers journals/posts, and have focused in on a grower from another forum by the name Tom Hill. Not sure if its ok to link to other forums, so I wont. Just wanted to give you an idea of what i've been reading, and where im coming from.

Now, the first year ill probably only be able to run 100 to 150 gallon smart pots. If the first year is a success, then ill move to 300 gallon smart pots. Will be inside a greenhouse, hope to have a clearance of 12 - 14 feet or so.

My main question for those of you who have grown big plants, how wide are they across? I've seen a lot of pictures, and many of them have people standing beside the plants. I've kind of ballparked a 6-8 foot 'cross' from the center of the plant as the grow area for these big plants. Does that sound about right?

Trying to plan out the first greenhouse, so I appreciate any help yall can offer!

Thanks.

it really depends on how you grow them, you can train them to wider if needed. what have you been planning on doing for training? ive never really grown monsters my vest yieild outdoor on a plant is like 15.5 ounces.

I would allow 10'-12' per plant for monsters.
This girl (mad purps under a 10' wide car port) was 11'-12' wide and was a nice producer. She was grown in a 200 gallon SP and watered everyday.
The 2nd picture in my SR-71, she's still up ( just about 10' wide) and should produce nicely.
Good luck,

Thanks to the both of you, and Treemansbuds, I really appreciate the picture with dog for scale ;)

For training, I plan on doing much like whats shown in the picture. Ill top it several times, and run it through some caging to make it bush out into a ball of sorts. A lot of the greenhouses we're looking at are 20ft wide, so hopefully ill be able to put in two rows and train them to be just a touch smaller than the one shown.

Seeing one that big in a 200 gallon smart pot gives me some hope that my 100-150's might put out just fine haha. Guess we will have to wait and see!

Thanks for the help again you two. I *really* appreciate it. Hope I can pay it back one day!

You'll need to shoot me a personal message for that answer about weight. Seeds were germinated the last week of Feb and left in my greenhouse with no artificial lighting needed. The SR-71 is still up, and will be harvested in about 10-15 days. I've been dragging my feet this last week waiting on the plants to finish up. The games start again on Thursday (trimming) for a full 3 weeks.
