Question about LED Spectrum Red vs. Blue

I am wondering the benefit of flowering with a balanced spectrum vs. a more Red spectrum? I have two LED lights, one purple and one magenta. I will be adding two more. Should I add another purple and red for an evenly balanced spectrum. Or would I benefit more from adding two more magenta lights which are heavier in the red spectrum? From what I understand a balanced spectrum is better? Or will more red yield more?

Right after I red sds' thread I noticed within the same day my growth was starting to yellow at 750 umol with little blue in the spectrum. His theory was either add more blue to the spectrum for higher intensities or add co2 supp. This makes perfect sense with my previous experiences with a strictly ww and red spectrum panel in the past. I backed it off about 3" and they greened right back up.

I think your decision depends on how much light your going to be delivering and how much air exchange you have (I don't have any, no new co2) so my intensity limits are probably less than someone that brings outside air in.

How many watts per square foot would you be at adding the other two?

My tent is 2 X 2.5 X 7ft tall. Intake is passive with a 170 cfm 4" fan filter combo. I have Kessil LED's that draw 90W and put out maybe 250 watts. My setup is maybe equivalent to a 500 watt HID. Thinking of adding to more lights to bump it too 1000 watt equivalent.

I'm not looking for a pound. I'd be using a 1000 watt HPS if that was the case. I like using 400 watts of actual energy to produce close to 1000 watt HID. Just wondering if I should keep the spectrum more balanced and purply, or more red heavy like a HPS. Are there any advantages to a more mixed spectrum?

You should put some solar panels under it and sell the energy back. You might even make some money.

The 90W actual draw shitty LED will hardly beat a 150W HPS.

Kessil hate is kinda like Advanced Nutrients hate lol. I do two 5 gallon plants, each under a H350. They produce plenty of high quality meds that are very sticky and dense! I dont know what else you expect? I can use a red H150 and get the same if not better performance than adding a cobb.

kessil isn't the worst by any means but its not your best bet! Advanced nutes are not worth the $! That's just my opinion though!

Kessils are nice little lights. I ran a H350 for a while when they first came out. I'd add in more magenta for now. But if you continue to expand, definitely do some more purple down the road too.

There's a group of Kessil users here that can give you more advice probably. Think it's called Kessil 2015 thread or something like that

My first LED was a 90 watt UFO. Worked well but too bog, clunky and heavy. So I bought the Kessil H350 to replace. Someone here suggested that Kessil and I had thought it was nice but pricey! Well it performs better and takes up far less space will still giving better coverage. Advanced isnt pricey when you are a small scale grower.

Yes I am well aware and a member of the Kessil club. Just getting opinions from guys that run other LED's and find out what spectrums work best.

Right now, 3000k-4000k cobs are the best option available. They're also the cheapest led option right now as well. Though still more expensive than HID or fluorescent tech. Red/blue panels have gone out of style on this board.
