Question about HID grow setup

One thing no one mentioned is modifying a stanley blower fan. Way simple (and cheap $60) and easily cools my 1000 watt HPS. Just google stanley blower fan mod. If you have any additional questions feel free to PM me. Puts out a ton of air and a 5" flange fits on it perfectly.

Also Nubby Tubbs what is this Panda Film you speak of?

i had a stanley blower it works ok i sure wouldnt use it on a 1000w if i didnt have to.....I gave it my friend to exhaust his 400w closet grow....It worked for him but i sure wouldnt recommond it unless you have to.

Panda film is a plastic black on one side for keeping light out and flat white on the other side to reflect light....Its used for all kinda of applications...

Hi Twist,
Hey be a little careful listening to the big guys. If I'm not mistaken you just want to grow some weed! Ofcorse some of this stuff is good info & it's nice to get tooled up ahead of time but when $$ is tight you gotta make due & just GO. I run a 400watt cool delux in veg & hsp in flower - 2*4*8ft. cab. I cool it with a $25, 4", Home Depot, 80 cfm, .25amp, inline p.o.s fan with a carbon filter. When she runs a little warm I crack the doors. I could use more cooling but wtf. I did spring for 2 hepa filters which are a waste of funds when the doors are open. Will I have the best....nope, could you do better........yep, but atleast we don't have to deal with the freaks. In 30+ years of growing I've never seen a plant in dirt die....EVER! Picture 005.jpg
I didn't think you would mind a pic on your thread but feel free to delet it. Just wanted to show you that if you work the problems you'll get smoke. Oh & you might want to duck cause this is going to get ugly.....tehe

Thanks for that note. also it should be noted that I live in a colder basement and temps never get above 80 in the chamber. I just have the stanley blowing out and a fan aimed at the 1000. Ill probably hook it up to a duct system though to bring in cold winter air.

Get a 6" inline with speed controller and be done with it. PC fans and Booster fans arent going to cut it. Plan on spending at least $100 on an inline fan. Dont skimp on ventilation its more of a headache than its worth!
600 watt cool tubed reflector hood 250.00 , 6 inch vortex inline fan with "speedster" hook-up 170.00 , the kindest bud you'll ever smoke , priceless

Yes it is true that you dont want to over do it...but at the same time if you do the bare minimun you usually end up not happy and having to spend more money to get it how yu really want it in the end....My mom tryed to do it the cheap easy way and in the end she threw everyhing out and bought all new good stuff so it dosent always save you money to do it cheap....i would suggest doing it proper the first time..If you cant afford that i would suggest to wait and buy one piece at a time tell you have what you need.....Or you can half ass it and spend more money in the long run....

Only thing I forgot was a filter, and I guess that will be the only thing I half ass (for now). I read somewhere about people using stockings over the intake to keep the dust off of their bulb. I'll give that a shot I suppose. Have to figure out how I'm getting this ducting out of the house now without it looking too strange.

Stockings will work. If you're like me you'll have your head stuck in the door all the time anyway. Cutting a hole in the wall sounds like jumping out of a good airplane but it's not so big a deal. For a $20 you can get sheet rock, spackle, paint & the hole dissapears. You Tube will show you how. I hate to waste the heat so I sent mine under a kitchen cabinet & out through the kick plate. $7 for a floor vent cover & it looks like part of the house. Don't even hook my carbon filter up until the last month.

FootClan is right, it will cost more to redo somethings. If this wasn't hard it wouldn't be fun.

haha, yeah no problem in patching. I'm a contractor so I better be bale to handle that lol, BUT nothing in Florida is stick framed, its all block. SO this will require a bit more thought. Probably have to hit an HVAC place for some different duct parts, in any case I'll make it happen somehow. Do you guys usually use dampers going outside or something else?

Excellet........Hey I may need your advise on electrical as I am currently running power to my nursery, in a 110 yr. old house. What if we thought vertical. Can you tie into an existing roof vent? That would pull some air on it's own. I'm gonna go check my garage & see if I've got one.

Some of those old houses have ALOT of wiring problems...infact I JUST did a remodel on an old old house. NOTHING was code lol. We ripped EVERYTHING out and redid all of the wiring. So really it jsut depends on that....I'm not 100% sure what you're asking though. Are you trying to tie into old duct work, with new duct work, or trying to tie eletrical together? Willh elp as much as I can without seeing it, I'm sure others on here have had this as well

Yeah I blew that.....sorry for the confusion, the wiring thing was a side note & actully I found an easy tie in to some modern romex cable so I feel better.
My temps are good now but I will be struggling when things warm up outside. Your ducting issues got me thinking how I might extend my growing season by sending the exhaust out through the roof. If my last cycle will finish in June, I'll have my hands full with heat issues. I don't mind punching a hole in an interior wall, but the exterior makes me a little nervous & I AINT putting a hole in the roof. I'm pushing my luck with the wife as it is! Think I'll just save my pennies & upgrade the fan when it's time. I guess we will need some kind of damper to keep out bugs & birds & sqirrels & bees & such.

I agree with Strefangoalie just drop the cash on a decent 6 inch 200 or so cfm fan and run a 6 inch cooltube with a 150-250w hps in it or something to that effect.

I would also try to expand your area slightly. I understand if you want to keep it contained but is there any way to make it like 2 feet taller. I was just thinking because you need more space for vertical growth and that the HID system will take some space up and you can still keep the plants like 5 inches from the light or so which will be fine for flowering.

That 4x4x7 tent sounds good just be careful some them cheap ones smell bad and can be made of bad pvc that contaminates your operation. Also if you go 4x4x7 get a 600w for lighting.

best of luck on your new endeavor:D

About the ducting, I'm probably going to set my tent literally right next to an exterior wall anyhow. So I'll have maybe a 2ft total length of duct to the outside with a damper on it and call it good. I doubt anything would want to fly in there while the damper is open and hot air is blasting out. I'm imagine its the same concept as dyrers. I didn't want to run a LONG duct line to the outside, becuase from what I know about ducting the longer streth you run the worse the circulation is. I've fixed some houses with bad znoning or long stretchs and seen 1 room 77 degrees and at the same time the room on the opposite side of the house is 85 degrees haha, definitely do not want that.

Good luck to you as well, we ALL have to fight the wives about it. They get to take our cards and go shopping though, so sometimes gotta just gotta lay the law down lol. Mine mostly just shakes her head about my little project. I'm sure the head shaking will grow into nagging though. I try to explain some of this stuff as I'm all excited and she just absolutely does not give a flying fuck about it lol

Another thing I was just thinking about. Why do we really need to go outside with it. Why not just into another room? If you have a filter for the smell why bother going all the way through and exterior wall? If you're pumping it into a different room I would think the heat would just get dispersed throughout the house, without seeing any real temperature increase. I mean how hot is the air thats getting pumped out really?

Behind every good man is a woman rolling her eyes. I don't know about you but I can chew through weed like it's my job. I just keep reminding her of the $$ we save.....& the folks u gotta deal with out there.

As to the ducting I was bummed about how little heat comes off my 400w. Mine dumps into the garage & I was hoping it would be a little warmer. When I built this new cabinet I wasn't legal so stealth was the main objective. That's how I ended up with the tiny fan & way too long ducting. The guys are right........we're going to have to loosen the purse strings at some point, with bigger lights & fans come faster bigger buds. Then some peaceful Sunday morning I'll wake up to the wife standing over me with an electric bill in her hand.

Anyway this is the fan I'm going to order tomorrow..........ooo hey have you ever delt with these? http://www.wamhomecenter.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=5050&utm_source=Froogle&utm_medium=Feed&utm_campaign=Product
The grow industry fans are so loud & with a muffler & rheostat switch it's like DSCF0005.jpg$250 & 100lbs of gear. The Panisonic is dead quiet & plenty of suck for my cab.

Just to wet your appetite. I know I'm frying them w/nutes butDSCF0004.jpg I'm almost out & I don't want to buy. Also I have Jock H. & White Rhino on deck waiting for the box. Their gittn all swolled up like a tic!

getting close to posting up some pics of the tent. 2 more days and ALL of my parts will be here. Waiting till im 100% ready to roll before I germinate. Was too late for any clones :( the indoor switch decision was made late in the season.

However, I did get some cream caramel seeds for my first go around since i know they are easy, and I've had what i believe to be white domina hanging around from a previous order that I plan to give a shot as well. My info on them is that they won't get so tall indoors which will be good for me. Tent is tall, but I won't have a real pro pully system yet so i don't want to be constantly adjusting them. As i said...Pics soon to show what all of the posters help has done!
