Question about growing my mothers

Is there anything in particular that I want to do with my mother plants? One is White Skunk and the other is a feminized white label, not sure what it may be yet but Ill save that for another day. I am growing them in pots with hydroton using the irrigating sprinklers like our old friend Mr. Green teaches. They are under two 4' 40 watt tube fluorescents. I plan on getting some cfl's in there to promote the sideshoot growth. Should I clip everything up to a certain node or what? Any extra advice about my mothers would be greatly helpful.

top when its like at 6 nodes back to four nodes, then again top the two new shoots when they grow a bit more, then top those four... that'll leave you with a squat little mother plant with lots of branching to choose from
