question about dehumidifiers

Any opinion on the Active Air or Ideal Air models? I see these in a lot of Hydro stores and the grower I know swears by Ideal-Air.

Not saying these are the way to go in fact your prob right but I want to see what you have to say anyways.

Thanks?!
What's the price difference between them and a Quest? They are still pretty expensive.

the humidity isnt to bad where i live its just super cold and dry. id say rh% normally in the basement is typically around 55%
Then why do you need a humid ? Only reason to control is mould but you can run late flower no problem with good vent system at 55%.
Run the set up and go from there and see what size if any you will need

I'd rather have two than one big one, drill a hole and run a pipe outside, any bin or reservoir is going to be overfilled at some point, it is just a matter of when.
I like this idea. You could also set one at a little higher RH, so that one acts as a first stage dehu, then the second one kicks on if there is a higher demand for dehumidification.

oversizing a single Dehu could result in short cycling/ less control

great posts as always man

because the plants perspire increasing the humidity in the room especially when the lights are off and your air conditioner isnt running as much when the lights are off so you will often see the humidity spike during that time so it is good to have one set to your desired humidity level so it maintains the correct humidity at all times.

The Quests / Anden / Santa-Fe run so much more efficiently, use half the power for same amount of water removal as the cheaper household models. You can mount them overhead easily to increase your floor space (big bonus). They are designed to be run 24/7 and they don't break as often.
Agree with all of this. I've been running a Santa Fe Compact70 24/7 for over a year without a problem, hanging from the ceiling. The MERV 13 filter is a big plus too.

Size of room and how many gallons of water per week in total for all your plants in watering?

in my experience the trotec Ttk 140 S is just enough for 2400w of hps
in your case you need 2 to dehumidify 4000w of light

It's 10x10 room, 12 gallons of nutes twice a day x 7 days = 378 gallons
How many plants? Just this information is going to help me size my unit approximately as plants expire 97% of water they are given so ill know how many pints are in the air.

you need 80l/24h, not less
You mean basically 170 pints per day?
Would either the Active Air Dehumidifier, 190 Pint or the Ideal Air, 180 pint work?
I know different pints are rated per day at different temp and RH so not sure what temp and RH 170 would apply to.

Also, I know typically Ideal Air is a good brand from what I hear... anyone use Active Air?

Anywhere from 2 to 4, but they are on the larger side. :)View attachment 4845611
At 4 plants that would be 6 gallons of water per plant per day (3 gallons twice daily). Holy damn lol. And that 70 pint really keeps up with the humidity? My calculations on "https://www.hydrotekhydroponics.com/dehumidifier-sizing-calculator" say you would need a 168 pint dehu and 70 is keeping up.... that is crazy. There is something either wrong with that calc or that 70 pint rating is not doing that unit justice lol.

again it also depends on the outside temperature ..

during winter=AC's running in heat mode during dark time=no dehumidification from the AC= need bigger dehumidifier

during summer=AC's running in cold mode even during night time=AC dehumidify the room=less need of dehumidification

and dehumidifiers ratings are subjective, because they say 40liters per day for exemple .. but thats for 30 degree 100% humidity
your room will need to stay in the 50% at 25 degree .. meaning the same dehu will only pull like 20 liters per day maximum ...

the best price/quality values are these:

not sure they sell in us

this one is rated 40liters/day .. and i know its just enough for 2400w sealed
(running non stop, lol)
for your setup (4000w) 2 would be perfect

Really depends on a lot of things! If the intake air is hot and humid during the summer, it's hard to keep it under 60% during the light period without overheating the room above 90 degrees F. ( I don't have an AC unit). But that doesn't seem to cause any issues with the heat-resistant sativa hybrids I generally grow. It has no problem pulling down to 35 or 40% during the dark period if I need that, so I am pretty happy with it overall. Nice and quiet too.

My setup is 6000w... so 3.... yikes
