question about cloning.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of either having one mother plant and taking clones off of her rather than just taking clones from a plant before you throw it into bloom? If you start with one plant from seed and take a clone from it then flower her and continue this practice will this ever change genetics or the potentcy? Can you clone too many times? Thanks for all your replies in advance! :joint:

Mother plants take up space and may require another light. Taking clones from clones is fine, and no unless the clone mutates you can not clone too much, you will have the same genes forever.

You can clone too many times, however it would take your lifetime, and that of several of your offspring, including great, great grand kids. The phenomenon is called "Genetic Drift"

You can go without keeping a mom plant, however, if you have a problem such as a pythium attack or stem rot or damp off or any other problem, your probably going to have to start over from seed. Keeping a mom is a safe bet, however not everyone has room to do so, so you can just take cuttings off your vegging plants.

I kept moms before I had enough cloning experience, there were so many failed attempts. I would take 12 cuttings to get 6 viable clones.. I grow with an 8 week cycle and take clones 2 weeks before I put the plants into flower. This way I don't have to keep space and lighting for a mother plant and I still get a 8 week veg before flowering.

cloning clones is fine ! but yeah, look for any abnormalities that may or may not occur ! i have not had any..i clone clones, but at some point i just start over if i feel like it is the time

Wise guy, serapis, tommy and grow I appreciate it, I am still learning everyday! I am currently setting up a small grow room and hope to post some pics soon. I know there was a topic about posting pics on here and keeping them from being traced but I don't remember wherei saw it. Thanks for all your knowledge as I really do appreciate it. Do you guys prefer a digital or mag ballast?

The data you are talking about in pictures is called EXIF data. The program to strip it is called EXIF Stripper :)

I use magnetic ballasts because I can rebuild them every few years for about $50.00. That is what it costs me for new igniter and capacitor. I have never seen the power supply go bad yet.
