It does make a difference. You are being emotional and not rational about a very complex region with very real problems, it does matter how the region became the mess it is.
Why?

Repeating myself - is ISIS in search of an apology?

No.

So.....why are you two intent on focusing on bridges burned?

The Region was already and always had been a mess....That did not just start in the last decade.....The best run ya had was with Sadam and he ruled with terror...Remember when he lined up all the protester's on a soccer field?

I'm not focused on "bridges burned", I'm far more focused on stopping the cycle of fucking around in the middle east which has only made issue worse. But you've stated history doesn't matter and would rather be upset at those people without thinking once of how they got to the point they are at. I'm stating doing the same thing over and over again, is a failed fucking policy to continue to carry out.

Got it.

So...at that point, ISIS reconsiders and draws down?
They may not, but other countries in the region have skin in this game too, and this isn't a two person chess game.

Remember when Rumsfeld and Sadam were buddies shaking hands? Oh how quickly we forget history and an example of our meddling

Sure you get some wrong you can argue the same point with castro who flipped the bird to the US but the new Iraq gov hasn't done that yet and I believe they are on there second president now? I think the population (Non radical's) even with there religious difference's just want some peace?

Says the guy that religiously follows Bill O'Reilly. lol
Because news is both fair and balanced, kinda like facts. Gotta have both sides of an argument presented as if merit is universal in all arguments.

Kinda like those weird creationist bills, gotta teach the "controversy" despite there not being one in science.

That's my point! We've gotten some (many) wrong!

And Iraq really should be three separate countries, despite I'm sure many wanting peace, the hard line factions will continue to punish the others.

Well this thread has progressed quite a bit in the last couple of hours lol.
Amos, I am curious to know if you are aware the US's drone strike policy. Because to be completely honest until I watched a bit they did on Last Week Tonight about it I thought we were only bombing the bad guys, turns out our definition of "bad" happens to be a little fuzzy... So I am of the same opinion as Stow and TY we are in our own salty bomb stew we made and you want to add more salt...

You cats keep painting me with the wrong brush - on purpose?

I've never said 'history doesn't matter'. What I've said - and continue to say - is that there comes a point that navel gazing becomes pointless, and in fact, keeps the focus off the trouble that's knocking at the door.

They may not, but other countries in the region have skin in this game too, and this isn't a two person chess game.
In a way, it sort of ' is '...stretching the definition of 'person' just a bit.

Says the guy that religiously follows Bill O'Reilly. lol
Really??

Post where I've quoted O'Reilly as a source of....anything. 8-)

I've never stated that, natro. In fact, I've not advocated anything in regard to a responsive action.

I am pretty sure you stated a few times over that we should take them out. Also thought you were of the opinion drone strikes were a positive thing.
If you are saying that your stance is not one of action (drone strikes being the only action taken so far to my knowledge) by our gov't then I am confused what your stance is because you keep laughing at the idea of any olive branch to them (not saying they deserve one). Not attacking them is not the same as tolerating them or apologizing to them. It is simply not fighting fire with fire. The indiscriminate bombing we do over their to further american interests extends beyond ISIS but if you bothered to watch the video we can call any middle aged man in a combat zone a jihadi and not think twice about it. Do you see how that could only serve to make them more hostile to our cause and drive them into the arms of the people not dropping bombs but proposing a radical way of living.
So like I said if your opinion isn't that we should be actively engaging them in military combat then I do not know what your view is on our involvement.

Nope - not me. I've said neither of those things. You're likely drawing inaccurate conclusions because I see no point in TY and stOw's preoccupation with assigning blame. There's a time for that. One of my positions, is that the dominos are already falling. There was a time when determining who knocked over the 1st would have been prudent in taking corrective measures. It's way past that. imo.

I understand. It's an extremely complicated and perplexing situation, isn't it?

How do we fight - or, more accurately, defend ourselves - against an enemy with one purpose, and one focus - one that has no intention of seeking peace, harmony, or any sort of co-existence with anyone outside their satanic ideology?

It seems like a no-win for the home team ultimately, especially in light of the Obama-led trashing of our country - economically, and defensively. Hard to fight a battle w/o effective leadership. The entire world has recognized this some time ago.

Quite a conundrum. fo shizzle !

You're a smart guy. Is your position - really - that our best hope is to leave them alone and cross your fingers they'll then leave everyone else alone?

Do you have a lot of confidence in that, amigo?

Im not advocating to leave them alone but contain the crazy. I think we are a little past the point of airstiking this movement to death. In june if we could have been all over this shit with airstrike then it might have worked but now they are well armed (thanks to us and the iraq army, fucking cowards). I just read some shit the other day also that Turkey was airstriking Peshmerga forces, when they agreed to join our coalition or wtf ever... So I guess I don't fully understand where their allegiances are since IS is at their door and don't give a shit seemingly.
I think we are past the point of air strikes and need to have forces in the minimum number of 5,000 securing a border around them and choking their area of control in till exterminated. While also training local forces and restoring infrastructure along the way as we take back the land lost to them. Which at this point is a lot of land to cover

Well then, I'm puzzled as to your position on this. You're not for action, but you're not for inaction. As a fiscal conservative (can I call you that..... don't want to broad brush you again) I would hope that you at least see the lunacy in continuing to drop trillions of dollars in to that hell hole. It seems obvious to me that page one of their play book is to bleed us dry just as they did to the Soviets in the 80's.

And please, your insistence that this is an Obama created conundrum is intellectually dishonest. George W Bush owns this mess in the Middle East, and he owns this turd sandwhich of an economy we have too. Not saying that Obama is doing a good job of cleaning up the mess.... but he certainly didnt create it.

Dude! Either your being disingenuous or purposely obtuse, because I know you're not stupid.

I'm not reading into anything other than the positions and statements you've posted. You can't say in one breath "you are reading into this" and in the next make posts like:

"I was pointing out, that the very freedoms we provide to all, are also protecting those that are planning to kill you."

Or

"Pointing fingers is just another way people twiddle their thumbs.....wasting what time they may have."

Or

"Look, amigo, I think I've made it clear. I don't care WHY they hate us. At this point, it makes no difference.

In case you haven't noticed - they're not seeking peace talks"

You are advocating something whether you'd like to admit it or not. Given how this lively discussion has taken, you've take a point and are defending it.

I don't think you would misrepresent me intentionally, amigo. That would be 'intellectually dishonest'.

So I conclude you're rushing through the posts. I never said Obama is the cause of the problem. I referenced him regarding the weakened country as viewed by all our enemies. In a time that desperately needs strong, competent and effective leadership, we are bereft of it. That's not good.

I have to admit, that the last few hours of conversation has been fun, and there's something terribly wrong about that - this is serious business.

TY, thanks for grouping all those quotes in one post. They are all responses and observations to you cats' p o v. None of them advocate anything, do they? Bomb...don't bomb......pull out....don't pull out - I've never agreed w/ either position. Where I stand, is what you just posted:

"Look, amigo, I think I've made it clear. I don't care WHY they hate us. At this point, it makes no difference."

That's my position. [ or at least, some of it ] :eyesmoke:
