Quantum boards in a 4x8

Hey guys am looking at a perpetual grow setup. For a 4x8 flowering tent would two HLG 550 v2 quantum boards be a good choice?

Has anyone had any experience with them set up like this or in comparison to two 1000w hps?

Heat is an issue where i live as i am in a very warm climate.

Purchasing from HLG guarantees you a superior product and excellent customer service.
That being said, I would prefer separate boards to even out the light than the big heat sink thing, but it'll work fine.

I think you should be thinking Fluence Spydr, not HLG. If you are going to fork out the bucks for HLG over Chinese boards, the you might as well fork out for 2 Spydr's. I've heard people say one Spydr equals 2000w hps.

I run exactly what you’re asking about, but I have two 600’s from growers light. Far superior to hps in my opinion.

I used to run a 4x8 perpetual in which half of it was Quantum boards and half cobs. they replaced 3x 600hps that I used to use.

Personally I would go for the HLG 600 over the 550 or 4-5x 260w kits and have the ability to spread them out more or raise or lower each individually.

On one side of my tent I replace 1.5 x 600w hps with 2x 260w kits and they didn't disappoint.

Well yeah, all the people are full of shit some of the time. If I had the $ I'd go with the Spydr... Just sayin. But I don't, so I stick with the Chinese boards @ HLG / price. Same shit, different pile.
From the looks of it the savings aren’t as big as I thought they’d be with the Chinese boards. What about the spydr makes it so appealing? Besides the bs that a 650ish watt light is like 2 1k hps lol.

Spread and 301B top bin diodes and Osram Reds. That's about it. Also, I think they run cooler and the aesthetics are more pleasing. The output is higher too.

Edit: forgot to answer about the Chinese boards. I got 2 QB800 boards totaling 680w for 80 a piece. They are LM651C top bins. I've seen the reports and they don't lie. Again, same shit different pile.

They look good but I couldn’t justify paying almost double vs the hlg600 or some of those qb96s. Possibly Chinese boards but I’d still probably go with hlg since I have had nothing but great experience and service with them personally.

What was the round about total for the qb800s? $160 for two boards seems like a great deal! I’m sure there was shipping, heatsink and miscellaneous things. $500ish would be my guess?

Thanks for the info!

The big killer from China is shipping cost, you have to order a lot to offset that. So ordering 2-3 boards isnt going to be the same deal that my 16 boards were. Whole 16 panel light setup for barely more than 1 hlg600 light
