quantum board electrical question

hey people am new here, my first post so am sorry if this is the wrong place

have had green fingers for a few years now and have recently upgraded from hps to quantum boards, have recently purchased this light

QB288 V2 Samsung lm301B SK full spectrum Quantum Board 600W LED with XPE 660nm

Gotta say am impressed, so impressed in fact that I'm planning to buy another 1 maybe 2... Which leads me to my question. My electrical knowledge is quite limited and I've been doing some reading up on quantum boards, from what I've read it leads me to the understanding that QB's have to be viewed differently in terms of the power they consume. Whereas with HPS Ive always looked at it terms of watts used (rightly or wrongly), it seems with QB's I have to look at it in terms of amps and volts? I currently use 3 x 600w for flower and 1 400w for veg, via 2x 4 way maxiswitch controllers, but all are powered through the same plug with 13amp fuse and have never had any problems. If i was to buy 2 more of the 600w lights above would I be able to use them through the same power set up, or would I have to use another mains 13amp plug? If i have posted this in the wrong place please let me know

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and sorry if my lack of electrical understanding offends you lol

hey man
https://www.r2thk.com/QB288-V2-Samsung-lm301B-SK-full-spectrum-Quantum-Board-600W-LED-Grow-Light-with-XPE-660nm-for-hydroponic-system-growing-pd6850328.html
is that the light?
as far as electricity, volt * amp = watt, and you can use watts for LED same as for HPS. quick way and easy way would be to look at the driver, it comes with a meanwell driver, 600h-54b? the 600 is signifying a 600 watt driver.
it looks like 6 boards, that run at 2 amps and 54 volts (54*2=108*6=~600+). which would mean it is a 600 watt light. you could check how much power its drawing at the wall with a plug in power meter like a kill-a-watt.
If you bought new ones, you would most likely need to use a new plug. each of those drivers pulls like 6 amps on the AC side at 110v so two off one plug would be pushing it i think a 14awg power cord is rated for 15a but it would get pretty warm. i'm not an expert by any means but i would advise to use different plugs.

if you can clarify where you're buying the fixture people could help more. but it sounds like it might be an alibaba imitation of this:

not sure if that matters to you but i thought id let ya know

Thanks for the reply bro

And yeah your right its that light you've linked, I wasn't able to as it was my first post. I purchased that as am based in the UK and those HLG lights always seem to be out of stock. Did my research and R2T have a good rep among the QB community from what I've read. I would certainly be willing to Buy a HLG and compare it to the Alibaba one, but gotta say so far I'm impressed with what its doing, shxtting all over my HPS atm lol

no worries. it doesn't look like a bad light at all!

if it works, it works!

idk about electricity in the UK so i'd wait for someone with a better answer. it sounds like you had quite a bit on one plug before.

you could also try posting in the section "LED and other lighting" under the subforum "Indoor Growing"

Good luck to you!

If you can run 3x 600w hps you can run 3 of those lights.
The driver pulls 3.3amps on a UK power supply. 230v.

Welcome to RIU, there are plenty of Eurofuckers on here. Search for the Chinese quantum board thread, you will meet a few of them in there.
Eurofucker is not an insult BTW, I am one.

Thanks for the info much appreciated, will try section aswell

Yeah i did have a lot on one plug, but as understood it in the uk we have 13amps per fuse which is 2990watts. I was using 2220 watts but through contactors so that the initial power up was staggered. If i wasnt using contactors then i think i would have tripped a fuse, but have honestly never had any problems.

Thanks fa your reply fellow eurofucker! What country are u based in? Yeah i will, i have been looking in those threads for i while now, i think it was what got me confused in the first place lol. There seems to be a lot of arguments on there from people who dont believe QB's can match HPS but have never tried them, gotta admit i was slow to adopt new tech, but now that i have i wish id done it sooner!

Same place as you old bean.
Yeah mostly the only people who dont think they can match HPS are those who havent tried them. :bigjoint:
