Quadruple newbie attack. First grow jitters.

  • A newbie I am, but one that has done his research. Needless to say there comes a point where research isn't enough and the expertise and knowledge of more seasoned growers, like yourselves, is required. Your insights are duly appreciated. I started off with a total of 6 seeds all of which germinated except 2 so I ended up with AK47, Bluecheese(1), Amnesia Haze, and Bluecheese (2) (arranged from eldest to youngest) all feminized. They were all started at different but close time intervals. I have them under 4x32watt and 1x26watt (6500k) cfls. I don't feed them much of anything only a 200ppm with superthrive every other watering. Temps range from 70-79 F and humidity anywhere from 38-60 percent with fans blowing everywhere. I have them on a 24/0 schedule and sometimes 20/4 when I can. they also get a few hours of natural sun everyday.
AK seems to be going great, moved it to a bigger pot and put her under a 400watt MH It looks healthy and on schedule. I had an issue with the pH of my soilless mix earlier but I fixed it a few days ago and BC1 seemed to be the most affected by this issue but after adjusting its pH it seems to be recovering although it's still a bit yellow-lime in color and its leaves are pointing down, so I am wondering what the issue may be, if any. Amnesia looks fine other than the cotyledons being yellow, an indication to start feeding her perhaps? I am not sure I should be concerned. BC2 is still new, but I noticed that the leave tips of the first set are dry and brown? too close to the light perhaps? Is there anything I can do to get these babies healthier?
Any helpful advice and/or opinions would be appreciated. I plead you to help be a better care giver for these girls, maybe one day soon these girls will be taking care of me

They look pretty good to me, other than you might need to get the light closer. That BC1 is looking pretty stretched. I'd continue to monitor the pH. If you just made an adjustment it might take a few days for it to show. If it were me I would just keep them under the lights and on the same schedule. Seedlings are delicate creatures and putting them in the sun might not be such a good idea, as they aren't accustomed to it. Try to keep their environmental conditions constant. Also, I would quit feeding them anything. They seem awful young to be giving them nutes already. Hope this helps. Good luck. Keep us updated on your grow.

If you're not going to help with the plants could you at least help me delete this thread. I wouldn't want to be a spammer!
and just how am I to delete your thread?...only mods can do that

you can at least edit it and replace it with something else so you don't look like a spammer

Thanks kcbudluvr I will definitely keep track of the pH. I gotta say I thought BC1 was a gonner but it looks better now, and it has continued to grow, starting its 3rd set, but it looks like a jaundiced runt (yellow-green and small leaves). I took your advice and put her closer to the light now. I also have a fan blowing a bit more on it hoping that will make the stem stronger. I wonder if there's something to do to get it growing more luscious green, I am thinking maybe more space would help, transferring it from it's 1/5th gallon to a 1/2 or 1 gallon pot, my logic is more roots more green... Although I am afraid of potential harm due to a transfer now, but maybe if she starts looking healthier soon. Oh and about the sun thing, I was under the impression that what growers were trying to do is emulate the environment cannabis would grow in naturally, and the sun having not only a higher spectrum of light range, but also a high lumen/ft² which is a great thing so long as temperatures and humidity were within the ideal ranges. Though I see what you mean and I am aware that these are mostly indoor strains so I see how they can be sensitive or even stunned by too much light.
Thanks again

I was asking if it was possible for you to tell me how since I couldn't find it, not to do it for me. Oh, well I didn't know that you couldn't delete your own thread. I guess I'll just have to wait till my next thread to change it.

Just be patient with them man. Try not to give them too much love and just let them do their thing. Keep in mind that these things grow all the time without the aid of humans. They want to grow. Your job is to provide a good environment for them to thrive in. And if you do they will reward you.

Remember if you're growing indoors you have created an artificial environment for them so to speak, and the sun is much more intense than your artificial lights are. This is one reason why you have to "harden off" plants before transplanting them outside if started inside. You usually want to gradually do that after they've gotten past the seedling stage. Enjoy the ride brother, they are truly amazing plants.

Update: Things are running smoothly except for Amnesia looking really sick. I don't know what it could possibly be. Does any one have experience with this 20131030_043401.jpg :wall:

other than that I topped AK yesterday and it looks like it's responding well, but I should mention that its first set of leaves, the two bottom ones above the cotyledons have become yellow and have brown tips.. wondering if I should just cut them off :dunce:

I think that amnesia looks good man. The new growth looks nice and healthy. As for your AK, I probably wouldn't worry about cutting the leaves off just yet. Let it go for a while and see what happens. I'm no expert though man, but I have had a few successful grows. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't take my advice as gospel, so to speak. Just do what feels right man. looks to me like you're on the right track. Happy growing man.

I can't seem to figure out what is going on with AK.. deficiency? burn? should i flush?! something else perhaps,.. in all cases I am freaking out and I don't know:wall:20131118_183024.jpg20131118_182947.jpg20131118_182916.jpg20131118_182908.jpg20131118_182837.jpg20131117_225714.jpg20131117_225646.jpg

its hungry. start feeding them now. go look up the deficiencies and shit. we dont wanna sit here and spoon feed you info. yellowing starting on the lower leaves and on the outsides of the leafs edge means its nitrogen hungry.
start with a 1/4 strength of nutes.

well some of what you see is in fact nitrogen deficiency but that's when I had her on 1/4 strength nutes, seeing that I upped her feed to 400ppm and fed her, after which it changed in color. I guess what am saying is, how do I know it's whether it's deficient because it's not getting enough nutes or the nutes themselves are there but locked out?
