Qat/Khat

I have been reading about qat for some time and would really like to try some. The problem is that I live in the middle of the midwest and no one here even knows what qat is, let alone how to get it. By looking on line I found a website that sells seeds and I am seriously considering a grow attempt.

1.) I am wondering if anyone out there has grown qat and if so, how did it turn out. can you grow it as a house plant, or is it like weed and requires a special setup?

2.) If anyone has done qat, how was the experience? Is the buzz you get a good alternative to tobacco and is going through all this effort going to be worth it in the end?

I have a yemenite friend, his whole family does this and his 80year old grandmother grows it.

I did it with him when i went round, you chew it it gets stuck in your teeth, its not that great. You just cant get to sleep and kinda talk alot. Its strange, YEMEN IS HOOKED ON THAT SHIT.

Its quite qwerky seeing a whole family with everyroom theres a place for the khat and they always chew it.

Meh its nothing special its pretty cool.

Ive never grown it but i usually get some when we visit my dads family in Nigeria and South Africa. It should also be known that I only use it because good pot is almost impossible to find there. They prefer khat to marijuana. Khat has a similar effects to weed but with a much more alcoholic effect

I am currently living in Norway and get Khat shipped from Ethiopia. Khat will make you very talkative, attentive, aware, and focused. Great for reading, etc.. The effects are much greater than that of tobacco and I would say that it is a good alternative, that is not physically addictive. I hope that this helps :) I have never grown Khat before, so I have no expertise to offer you in that field.

I lived in Saudi Arabia for several years, it is very popular in the 'Asir province. It is among the very few drugs that are tolerated under the fundamental religious laws there. They view it as being a somewhat disgusting habit of the mountain tribes but that it is in the same category as caffeine and nicotine. I never had a chance to try it but I'm always down for trying all natural substances. I am also very curious where it can be purchased. I have no idea if it is even illegal in the U.S.

It is illegal in the United States. Always wanted to try it. I'm not far from Dearborn Michigan, so perhaps I need to make some friends. I know it doesn't store well and needs to be consumed fresh. I also know that people do ship it daily to many places.

vice had a cool mini documentary on it

Well, if you are going to find it anywhere in the US, Dearborn would be the place! I didn't know it was illegal, good to know. I'm surprised that it is considering there are many perfectly legal stimulants at the gas station that are way stronger.

I just watched a video not too long ago from Vice about Khat in the UK. It's been banned in the US and most of Europe with the exception of the UK. It was about the impact a UK ban would have on the economy of Kenya where it is a main source of revenue in large parts of the country. They compared it more to coffee than an actually "drug." But of course they say the money goes toward funding terrorism. Gimme a fucking break. Several of the people they interviewed claim if anything it will turn people toward terror groups when the economy of so many rural areas collapse.

I have a feeling it will take more than a gas station. Probably need to make the right friends and what not. White Guy asking for khat out of the blue probably isn't the same as asking for ganja (back in the day, gotta love medical)

Bwa ha ha ha ha... It's schedule 1 in US. Get caught with it and you're going to prison for 2 years. When leaves are outlawed only outlaws will chew leaves.
