would it be cool to put my clones under my 1000 watt HPS with my other crops?? i have always just used floresents for clones but have them no more and never put them under a HPS bulb and really just do not know if it would be safe, as i don`t know any other growers personally to ask. i was thinking of just putting them on a stand to put them level with the canopy of the other crops. does anyone know if this is cool to do this>?>?

I assume you are talking about already rooted clones and not cuttings waiting to root.

Don't put them up top with the bigger stronger plants. Those little clones are going to need about 5' from that 1000w light or they are going to burn. My only real concern would be with the lighting schedule. Are your other plants flowering already or are they still in veg?

sry diden`t clairfy, they are not going to be rooted, they will be fresh cuttings, some in a propogation dome, and some not. And they will be under a veg light cycle, 18/6, for now. any suggestions??

oh, I wouldn't do that. Just grab a little shop light or a CFL that's all you really need for that. It's better to put them all under the dome if possible (if not, make sure to give them a little spray every 3 days or so to keep them from drying out too much with plain water).

you woulden`t do what? put under HPS? it is kinda the only choice i have in my grow room, i cannot put under any other light except the 1000 watt hps. Any suggestions? maybe if i put all the way on the ground and/away from light? really need advice on this, i have alot of clones that i don`t wanna go to waste.

Just keep them "away" from the light, Im not going to try to give you a minimum footage to keep them from the light. Just because its a 1000w doesnt mean it will burn them, Im sure the floor would be fine if it was an area with direct light.

And the type of HPS you are using will make a difference too.
Clones are almost better off in the dark, not dark, but subtle light. It's not that they will burn it's that you need the humidity and I don't know, I just think you should just throw the clone tray....anywhere else. I just leave mine in the bathroom and I put like 20 of them under one CFL until they root. Once they root you can throw them under the 1000 (Still far away at first), but less stress while rooting will mean higher success rates.

so do you think i could just leave them on ground away from light a little? i do have a humidity dome but i have more clones then i can fit in their, do you think i could just mist them daily to compensate for the lack of humidity? becasue this is like the only option i have for my clones, i can`t put under any other light, except for my 1000 watter, so you see my delima, and i just want to make sure i can get the most success rate possible for my clones.

Keep the cuttings (they aren't clones yet) as far from the light as possible, put the the dome over them as stated and try to misting every other day or so (very lightly). Should be okay, though not ideal and will just require a bit more diligence and work on your part. I would probably add water to the tray about once a week in that scenario. Do your domes have vents? That will help you in regulating and your success rates will go up as you get it dialed in right how often to mist, how often to open the vents, how often to water the medium, etc. But it can definitely be made to work if you don't have any other options.

I hope there's at least 3-4 feet between that light and those cuttings, and I mean at least.

He doesn't have anywhere outside of the grow area to put it. It's not the lack of lights or money, it's a lack of space.
indeed, i have a decent sized grow area, but like laserbrn said lack of space for extra light fixtures and whatnot. But i am going to expand soon and install some floresent fixtures for my cuttings and seedlings but for now i have fresh cuttings that need to go somewhere, and i just need advice on how to increase the success rate for my cuttings to root under my 1000 watt HPS. but they been under the light since yesterday, i have them all the way on the floor and to the side of my main crop, at least 5 feet from light, probilly more though, some in a non vented humidity dome and the rest are in cups. looking good so far, but only time will tell i guess. thanks again for the advice laserbrn, defiently earned some rep:bigjoint:

You do what you gotta do. If they are more than 5 feet from the light they should be just fine. Thost domes are pretty important, the ones that are in cups, can you find clear cups of nearly the same size? If so you can flip them upside down on top of them and tape them on so you get extra humidity in there too.

yea that is a good idea, putting the clear cups on top, makes perfect sense.I don`t have any on hand but i will go out and get some today. thanks for the advice dude.

Mine didn't do as well in that sort of situation, compared to just using a shop light in another room. They were off to the side, in indirect light. I don't know if it was the light, or some other factor - so it will be interesting to see how it works for you.

i have cloned under a 600 hps, i just put them in the dome and cover it with a piece of paper so that they dont get to much light, of course the other option is at home depot they have these single bulb t12 floros that come with a 2 foot warm white bulb for like 12 bucks.... but bact to your question, yeah you can put them in there, if you put them in a shaded part of the room like nder plants then they will be fine with no paper over the dome
