I ran into this light on Ebay. I have the ad im posting. Is there any truth to this? Should we try it out???

Here it is..**** You are looking at the best deal for a grow light on the internet. This light pumps out a purple light the same as a 80 percent blue 20 percent red led light would. This has been tested against 2 x*90 watt ufo lights you see on ebay,*and this was noticeably brighter and consumes about the same amount of energy. The ufo lights are the 5th design so far and they still have problems since they are made in*China and break constantly. This light will not have any problems and is built like a tank.*Each light is handmade and tested for 8 hours when complete. YOUR PLANTS WILL SEE 40 TO 50 PERCENT OF THE LIGHT THIS PUTS OUT COMPARED TO 12 PERCENT FOR HPS LIGHTS. This is equal to about 250 watts of led light, and 1000 watts of hps light.*The light is all brand new and comes with steel eyeholes and 2 long chains to in which to hang it, and a large air vent in the top to let the little heat this makes out of the container. These bulbs will last 10,000 hours and this is built to last and easy to change the bulbs with only 2 screws. you can use any cfl bulbs in this of any wattage you want.*Hang it and be done with it, no need to worry about heat or pulling tons of watts. Running this light 24 hours a day for a month will cost you just $15.00 and $7.50 for 12 hours on and 12 off grow rooms. This will light up your room so bright when you leave you will see purple tint in everything for a few minutes. It has a 30"x 15" purple face on it that takes advantage of every lumen the bulbs put out. I have seen 5 of these in a 15x15 space and it was incredible how much the plants were growing each day. The nice thing is you can add co2 and turn your fan off since there is little heat and let your plants sit in the co2 for insane results. You will get $10.00 off shipping for each additional light you buy. This will ship fedex with insurance and tracking included. I can only ship this to the lower 48 U.S. only due to the size and weight sorry. Thanks for looking.

dude why would you call him a spammer.. just because he found this and reposted it multiple threads doesnt mean hes a spammer.. i mean shit he has other posts... talking about normal things.... and if he is just someone selling something.. so what.. as long as he isnt being a hassle.. have YOU tested that product.. you can only ASSUME that what is there is not better.. but you actually didnt TEST it. Not to mention it would be nice to have more opinions supported by facts... sry i dont just trust someone cause they post alot... cause it could be alot of.. (see above)

after reading that advertisement paragraph I do have one question, if its saying its letting out a purple light, they why does it say you can replace the bulb with any cfl any wattage??? wouldnt it be a special light, cause if it was any cfl then it wouyld dramatically change the overall wattage based on that..

I dunno. Thats why I made this forum. Screw Tom. I simply asked about a dudes light. I didnt add any links like Tom to purchase n e thing. HPS til something proves diff. Thanks for defendin me growthspurt. + rep FO SHO! Peace!!!

I just looked at it on ebay and it looks like someone is trying to sell a cheap wooden frame with a colored piece of plexi bolted to the front. The only thing that it would do is filter out other parts of the bulbs spectrum. :finger: to that product.

No one wants to buy an 8 bulbs CFL reflector that is housed in a plywood box with red glass in front of the bulbs. That light sucks and it WILL NOT PROVIDE MORE USABLE LIGHT THAN HPS
I hope to god that no one gets scammed into buy such a shitty light at such a shitty price

thats the way to go Fditty. The only thing im confused about is the ballast......theres the old magenetic ballast and the new "digital ballast" I'm not sure which one i have. But can someone give me a estimate on how much each electricity wastes during "start up"

Because i read somewhere, start up for a magnetic electricty is equivelent to 12 hrs of use or something like that for a 400W.

Kraykush. No clue;-( ive thrown out the how much$ idea. As i am always rearranging shit and whutnot. It was summer so AC wasnt on but saw a 16$ difference. That was runnin a 400w mh, for vegg. Movin to 600w hps in a week so it will be interesting.

lol. so basicly that add is saying "slap a piece of pink plexiglass in front of a cfl, and it will hammer out more light than a hps or UFO" GTFO!

Not only that, he's violating the laws of physics!

When light passes through a medium some of its energy is lost.

But somehow his regular CFLs manage to to output more energy, despite the fact that a filter works by removing some of the spectrum (and thus some of the energy).

In the real world it would be more effective to simply use unfiltered lights of any type with the spectrum and lumens that you're looking for, and certainly cheaper, than to buy his snake oil contraption :)

--edit: let's dissect this--
1000 watt hps = 150,000 lumens (just picked a random bulb off the net as an example)
The 12% uptake he cites would be 18,000 lumens for an HPS.

He says it's an 184 watt box, so at 8 bulbs that's 23 watts per bulb. An average 23 watt (daylight) bulb puts out 1470 lumens. So 8 x 1470 = 11760 lumens.
Even at his best rating of 50%, you then see an uptake of 5,880 lumens.

Less than 1/3 of the possible energy available to the plant via his method, according to his own math.

So I'm a gardening newbie, but I'm also a skeptic :)

Yup in a nutshell. I emailed the guy and he told me the same shit. He lives near me. ( actually found light on craigslist) he sent me to his posting onEbay. Sounds a little out of his mind. I asked for grow pics from his garden. He couldnt give them. But guaranteed his product. Im straight! Just wanted to know wut you guys thought. He states that this is Not a New tech. Why havent we heard of it? Peace!!!

My husband found these online and wanted to try them so badly.
I'm not sure if the guy was crazy or if it was the samew guy your talking about.
I'm a skeptic about anything that sounds too good to be true so we
never bought any, but a friend of mine did to test them against his led setup.
I'll update when the experiment is done.

I'm kinda hoping they work actually.
