Purchasing supplies... Retailers questions...

I'm currently working on a custom made grow-box and in the coming days i'll head down to a local hydroponics shop to purchase my ventilation, filter, and a few other necessities.

My concern is that these people are knowledgeable and will be asking me about my space requirements and what I'll be growing. I don't know these people so on the off chance that they don't support unlicensed growing, I don't want to get into any trouble. I just want to buy what I need in cash and get out of there... but I know the questions will be coming.

So what can I say? I've got a grow cabinet that's 24"L x 15"W x 23"H
As soon as they hear that, won't they kind of suspect it? Or is there a better cover story I can use? Or should I just be honest a truthful, and hope for the best?

I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. Zero tolerance (with exception to medical), but police generally only bust grow ops and distributors.

Purchasing online isn't an option.

I'll be starting up a journal once my cabinet is more "together."

Thanks for calming my nerves, and this is an awesome community!

Chances are there not going to ask you what your growing, and if they do make something up, like tomatoes .. Honestly, to find out if hydro stores are liberal with Marijuana, I smoke a joint on the way a few minutes before I go in.. If they are fine with it.. I usually get a "You smell good.." and a smirk.. If they don't like it, they don't say anything, and are just a little more stand offish.. Either way you can't get in trouble for purchasing hydroponic equipment.. Just like how you can purchase a bong, and not be questioned about what your doing with it..

No reputable grow shop will ask you what you are growing. If you say "Im growing pot" now it is illegal to sell you equipment and they are out several hundred bucks.

If your really sketched out about getting a filter, tell them your growing (anything but pot) and you are useing it to filter the air entering your tent,or cabnet, whatever. Just using it to keep your air clean and bug free. Don't even mention you want it for odor control. But like most have mentioned, they want your money not your reason for buying it.

Any grow store in my surrounding areas either have it posted on the door or wall or counter. "Growing marijuana is still federally illegal and we won't fucking help you / you need to leave." That's the basic gist of it at least. However, some of the newer ones that have sprouted in the recent boom have younger people working. They know I'm not growing basil and cucumbers. They get around it by wording. Asking if I'm in veg or flower. And what size of plants rather than what kind.

There's only two shops here.

1st shop I walked into looked industrial and I felt very uncomfortable so I pulled the ol'

leaving-now-grandpa-simpsons.gif

2nd shop had a big quote outside: "Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Extremely liberal, talkative, helpful, awesome... My second favorite shop in this city now.

An inline and filter would be too much for my small cabinet so he talked me into a small duct fan with a home-made carbon filter. Just a smaller / quieter version of the standard inline /w filter. So, I'll try it out and post pics once all is set up.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Had a few questions was wondering if buying a pre made led cabinet is worth the money or to build it on my own and if buying it from like supercloset.com or bcnorthernlights is safe and if they have a good rep? Thanks for anyones help.
