OLYMPIA – The Washington State Liquor Control Board (Board) announced today that it will hold a public hearing on Nov. 13, 2013, to hear public testimony regarding recent draft medical marijuana recommendations.
Hearing Details
Date: Nov. 13, 2013
Time: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Worthington Center - Saint Martin’s University (5300 Pacific Ave. Lacey, WA 98503)

Pot and liquor are recreational drugs and pretty much the same. So it stands to reason it should be governed under the same control board. What am I missing?

What you are missing is any idea of what medical marijuana means to a lot of people.
What you are missing is marijuana and liquor are not 'pretty much the same'.
What you are missing is the Liquor Control Board (along with the Dept of Health and Dept of Revenue) are attempting to gut the 12 year old medical marijuana in the state.
Read up a little and you won't be missing so much.

Alcohol has very little medicinal value, it can be used as an antiseptic and as a mild relaxant. THATS ABOUT IT.

Cannabis while used by many for recreation, it has a diverse set of medicinal properties. People today are using it for cancer, glaucoma, pain relief, chemotherapy relief, depression, seizures, epliepsy, MS. The liquor control board really has no business and no expertise in regulating anything medical. I contend that the wa dept of Health doesn't either.

Hey - I understand where everyone is coming from. But let's say - that legal pot is being sold all over the place in a couple years. Yeah - I think that's great. But I want to know what I'm getting when I buy it. I want to know where it was grown, maybe what the THC content is, if it's organic, etc... And there needs to be a governing body to do that. So I'm thinking the same dudes that run the liquor show could do it so we don't have to create some whole other bureaucracy. I love you guys and RIU so please don't crap on me. I just want good, healthy pot for me and my family wherever I go.

Yea buying it from some store governed by the government and you think they are going to truthful? It's like saying I prefer my jack Daniels from Walmart, when my next store neighbor is Mr Daniels himself.

Old - ur right the gov't is bad at lot's of things. But US Business' are no angels either. You make it seem like some black/white issue but really it's shades of grey (not the book ur reading). Think about it dude.

One problem is that the liquor control board does not have the qualifications to ensure that there is a safe healthy supply available for all. They are a taxing and enforcement agency. They are NOT the FDA, the USDA, or anything similar to that at the local state level.

That also does NOT mean that they have to destroy the medical marijauna system in order to gain monopoly control over the market. They are recommending to stop personal patient grows, caregiver grows and force patients to purchase at recreational licensed stores. Its unethical and immoral to apply a sin tax on someone because they need medicine.

If they have their way they will turn me into a criminal because I want to grow my own medicine AND help those that can't grow their own medicine, instead of paying the state taxes for the privledge of paying some industrial grower, when I can grow better cleaner and healthier medicine myself.

The federal constitution law passed in the 70 s Dietary Supplement act IT is our rights and freedoms that all herbs, fruits and all dietary nutritionally grown plants that produce seeds including the millions of types of conic to never be limited , controlled and considered and our freedoms and liberty. Grow a garden and you will understand the opportunities and don't allow Washington state to flood the market with product from another country who knows remember the CIA took over the cocaine market during Vietnam. Any and every type of corruption will exist within all governments..

Your lucky to know where you get any of your food from they don't mark it.... we only need 2 mandatory laws for all growers..... 1) testing for pesticides and molds before sales anyone can grow it but it needs to be tested before sales to the public....the government (LCB) isn't going to be testing your marijuana private companies will.....that's what's wrong with the medical marijuana in Washington State ...we have no mandatory testing...way to lax with the regulations and its not taxed....but all that will soon come to an end ....ALL DISPENSARY OWNERS WILL HAVE TO GET NEW BUSINESS LICENSES BY 2015 ..... follow new regulations and pay taxes or they might even be shut the fuck down if the LCB fears competition.... Its all about money the Liquor Control Board doesn't know shit about marijuana...or it would be called the Marijuana Control Board and 2) Controlled disposal of water containing fertilizers from hydro grows with proper use of MSDS sheets.

They should allow the free market to dictate. the majority of the problems will sort themselves out and the govt. will make more money by not expanding on an ever growing under ground black market
because of the implementation of 502. There should be some testing on the medical side because there are some faulty ass people out there giving truly sick people poison but besides that I say open the flood gates and help Washingtons economy grow

I find it so insulting that the state thinks that all we care about is getting the most weed for the least amount of money. We want to grow our own medicine so we can control what's in it. It makes 0 sense to have people using marijuana medicinally to be given exact same weed as someone who just wants to get high. The state takeover assumes that all mmj users are just liars using a loop hole, and I don't have my head so far up my ass to think that is never the case, but to then stripe all of us of the ability to grow our own is fucked. I don't make money growing weed, I spend money growing weed. I'm not robbing the state and if they ever actually do succeed in this I will move to California.

Furthermore, a state takeover will lead to home invasions, organized crime, rippers, jackers, narcs, and all the other shit we finally got a way from. The point of this was to destroy the black market, not to create a new one.

I watched online and it was exactly what I expected. A bunch of people sharing their stories about how cannabis has helped them and how most of these recommendations are BS. 95% of the people that talked were against the recommendations. We'll see how this all plays out in January.

I've talked to a few dispensary owners about it and they really don't seem too worried....I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. They all said our side has a LOT of lawyers and that we will get it figured out. I also heard that the Liquor Board was selling growing licenses under the table...so there will be a lawsuit there and hopefully an investigation. At this point I hope that I-502 just fails and disappears.
