Pruning a Big plant small in order to Finish?

I'm not getting any answers on other forums so I come here in hope someone can answer my question. Please read carefully before answering because I have not found this answer from searching.

I have a plant that has been flowering outdoors for 12 weeks, it is bagseed, and some kind of unknown hybrid. It is extremely leafy and there are many budsites and large colas. The smaller buds are almost finished but the cola's have another month. My Question Is- If I remove the smaller buds will the large cola's ripen faster? I believe they will ripen faster just like a tomato plant will ripen faster if there is less fruit. I don't want to confuse this with saying any smaller plant will ripen faster, I'm saying what if you cut a huge plant down to one main cola wouldn't it finish faster.

Can I add another question? I'm not trying to confuse anyone but I really would like help.

The same plant mentioned above^^^ like I said is extremely leafy, for example if you take a main cola and spread it open and look inside, you will see buds and tons of leaf(like a salad) that are almost WHITE, because the sun isn't penetrating the "salad". SOooo, what I did was cut at least 25% of the leaves off. I KNOW, never cut leaf, but I think with this crazy hybrid plant I have there is so much leaf that even with all I've cut off you still can hardly see budsites.
So what I'm asking in this whole post is I think that by cutting off small buds that are decent smoke and by trimming leaf IMO the plant does seem to respond well. True or False? I am open-minded on this please help.

I don't think it's possible to speed up the "ripening" process. To the contrary, I think that trimming a huge plant down to one main cola could slow down the process. I'm not really sure what I'm basing that on, tho. I do know that the buds/colas need to be able to pull nutrients from the vegetative matter in order to complete the flowering process. That's why most people do not trim off their fan leaves. The plant needs them.

I would leave it alone. Best of luck.

Im no expert but im pretty sure that it would slow down the rate of growth at first, because the plant must heal itself werever you cut it, but then, once its healed its wounds, the rest of the plants' energy would go to the remaining branches.
I dont think it would ripen faster but it will yield slightly more on your top colas..
I like to cut off probly the first few sets of branches to try and reduce the amount of little popcorn buds that are lower in the canopy and cannot get any light and focus most of the energy onto bigger buds and then in the last week or so i will cut off practically most of the fan leafs if not all of dem. :eyesmoke:
Its all about trial and error my good man, good luck.

Oh and do you know what weed it was?
Strains like durban poison, passion No1 and frisian dew are really leafy strains but they are infact 'Bud Leaves'.
make sure youre not cutting off THC covered bud leafs, and check that that white isnt 'white mildew' or youll lose the lot.

why would you cut your leaves a week b4 flower? doesnt make any sense dude, thats when it pulls all the energy and that stored in em and puts em into the buds.....your losing alot of the swelling of the buds that way, it cant put energy it doesnt have into the buds final swelling/ripening.

yeah, that is very true, but sometimes in the end it does help more than hurt. you shouldnt clip leaves or try to prune for yeild or top during flower but a lil trimup to take off the shitty lil popcorn nugs (i dunno why they'd still be there if you planned the lolipopping though, lol, i do gotta give you that point, but he didnt plan on it it seems.) preferabley all your pruning and trimming should be done 2 weeks b4 you flower em or at least when you switch to flower you should take the popcorn off if your going to. but then idealy you should lst them so you never have to trim any popcorn nugs hardly cuz their is no popcorn buds, each growth shoot is a top cola. your research is correct, +rep for you. lol

cutting the leaves off is gonna make it take longer and not be as potent. if u do have too much leaf coverage tie to or tuck them out of the way, they still make food by absorbing light and the plant stores its energy/sugars/nutrients-the plant takes it out and puts it into the buds then completely drops the leaf(if u can gently tug on the leaf and if it comes off the plant is basically through with em. it happens during the last 2 weeks of flower cuz it takes all of its stored energy and in a last ditch effort to continue the species it will put it all into the floral clusters, thats why the last 2 weeks is when they start to swell up and all that.
which video are u tlking about? he has what looks like at least a hundred of them.....
