Protecting against backyard thieves?

Currently I've got a motion spotlight and a thermally-triggered alarm aimed at the garden and I've been sleeping in a tent right next to my ladies with radio communication to the rest of the collective members and live security cam running 24/7 on monitors in the house. I've also got a machete in the tent with me just in case I actually have to defend my life. I will be camping non-stop until final harvest. Need to invest in an air mattress!

A friend of a friend recently lost 13 plants, pots and all, from his backyard in a nearby city at 3am. Got it all on video. They hopped his fence and passed the plants back over the fence to someone else running them out to the getaway truck. Too bad he wasn't camping like I am or he may have scared them off. Tells me I'm definitely not being overly paranoid. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

I've always found fish hooks on 20lb test line strung throughout the garden works well, you hear a squeel then they gotta pull the hooks out backwards hurts like hell. and trust me they r pretty happy to see you come around the corner with side cutters in ur hand to set them free. ENJOY!!

If you hurt or threaten anyone it's you who will pay the bigger price. As temping as it is you can't chase someone with a sword or even show them your gun. I have game cameras but I don't put them near my plants. I fear what I will/would do if I knew who did it. Personally, I'm better off not knowing. Just thinking about what I might do is reason enough not to know.

I have an "All Lawful Purposes" license which are getting very tough to get here in Assachusetts but I don't carry very often unless I go to the city. If I am carrying it's more often than not a little .380 auto shooting 90 grain hollow points. Not big but three center mass will do the trick and I would and could use it to save my life. I may be a softy but I like to think that if some crack head was waving a knife around I would give him my wallet. For the $12.00 in it and a credit card not worth much I would give him the wallet and let him walk. I don't think I would want the burden of shooting someone over so little. :D

The driveway alerts are the balls at least in my drive way. I have a long driveway and if someone drives/walks down it I hear a doorbell go off in the house. Pretty cool but not as cool as sleeping with them which is what I would do. :D

Screw the roses!! I live in MA but this flying dragon Orange (poncirus Trifoliata) lives outdoors all year. You do not want to fall into it!!! If I got a few tacks in the palm of my hand I would curse under my breath and still rip your grow but if this guy got you your done for the evening.

It never occurred to me that legal grows like you guys got are prime candidates for the rip. Theft must be a HUGE problem!!

Ok I like the paintball sentry idea but i think an AK-47 sentry would be better. Oh wait, you said legal...ok then if you live in the state of Texas, use an ak47 to protect your ak47.

has anyone gone to the police after getting ripped?
i wonder how that would play out...
no, but the police came to me because the rippers left my veg plants sitting about somewhere.

the dicks never gave me my plants back, either.

my security arsenal cannot be fully disclosed, but it involves lots of perimeter wire in unexpected places, mirrors, motion sensor alarms, door alarms, a caged greenhouse, an electric fence, constant 24/7 supervision, and a little help from my friends.

next year i'm gonna stick with a guard goose. geese are fucking territorial and LOUD.

peacocks and caged rabbits are also nice alarm animals. rabbits will thump the cage whenever anythings off and peacocks scream. My aunt keeps a bull goose in her backyard and he honks and attack like crazy.

This is my Driveway Alert setup. Anyone that used this brand will know false alarms suck. Moths or even wind on bushes will set them off. These alerts have different channels. So I always run two channels in the same area but not at the same spot. This way the chances of both them being set off by moths is very slim. But if a person walks into the area both channels will sound. This tells me I better take a look for 99% chance it's a ripper. Then if they get into my carport it is set up the same way.

I have 10 of these units. I leave the other 5 recievers outside to chime as well. Some of these are set in the path the ripper will most likly take. So if the beep in pattern I know to get take a look. I do not want to confront a ripper. I just want them gone asap. With this setup the ripper is alerted the same time I am. My thinking is he will be on the run as soon as he hears the beeping. Also scare tactic if I am not home. If you are a young buck and want to catch them keep all the recievers inside with you.

To be honest it took my years to dial these in. It was like I was back in my tweaker days. I even have them dog proof for the most part.

Ten of them is overkill but gives you soild hits and not wondering. If a person walks in my yard my recievers lite up like crazy. It's a good feeling knowing it a real alert. I ramble about these for what all growers to get some. It's a must if you don't sleep out with your plants. Look how many grows just this year alone that could have been saved with just one of these for under $20. With 5 recievers beeping outside and 3 trail cams flashing I do not think they will be sticking around. (they may learn something though)

So there is nothing these people are going to suggest thats going to stop someone who wants your stuff. You have to keep someone there at all times that is willing to do what it takes to keep people away. I have 60 plants in my yard and I live on a native reserve and what we use is the PRESA CANARIO! Five of them is my answer but sense you cannot do anything about it today let this be a lesson and plan for next season and hopefully you make it threw the season with out having to learn a hard lesson. Crazy dogs help find out a persons intentions right away and you dont have to get any blood on your hands unless your dog gets a hold of the bastards! It doesnt matter if you grow legally or illegally stolen is stolen. Good luck!

Lol I use9 of these >,< and I have them set by frequency and laid out so that I know where they are based on what alarms go off. I also double up for redundancy lol >,< . the only difference being is I can just look at a camera after an alarm sounds though I still go check. Honestly the best thing you can do for security is dont be static! change , change , change and change your setup dont get caught up in a routine that someone can learn. switch it up! add things , remove things change things around. and remain vigilant!!! I went so far as to start a mother fucking neighborhood watch program .. a legit NHW with the police sponsoring / training for my whole watch team lol.
