We're now down from 40 to 21, which means that 19 males have been ripped out of the garden. We have four that look like fem's but haven't produced any hairs yet and 6 that aren't showing at all. The 6 that aren't showing I think is down to the late transplant, but we'll be very unlucky if 3 of them turn out to be male. A little unlucky if it is 2, and merely unlucky if there is 1.
We'll be lucky, of course, if there are none. Plus I have my clone which will add to the fem's.
Picking the males, to my mind, has been fairly easy. We were a bit scared at first due to our inexperience but once we started we soon got into the swing of things. I think it helps also, on your first time, to have a second opinion. You both know what you are looking for but sometimes you dis-count what you know. For example there could be little balls on the plant in certain places then on the same plant you come across a tear-shaped pod. I think we have pulled two that were like that. I mean at best they were going to be hermies, but we still left them a day longer than was needed, just to be sure.
Our fem's are looking lovely and we've moved those to the front right in front of the fan. That way if there are any males left and they decide to drop their load the fan won't be blowing it all over the fem's.
Oh, a note about the manure... it attracts bugs. I don't think any of them are causing the crop any harm but I think it'll serve us better in the future not to use manure.
