Hi Professor, Im very sorry to hear about your loss, losing a loved one is never an easy thing. I have a thread going in Newbie central i have been struggling with my NL seedlings since germing. I am seeking guidance as i read so many different posts on here and get confused about which advice to actually listen to. If you could check my thread out and let me know your opinion i would really appreciate it.

can you plz tell me how many days it takes from flowering the african seed, or malawi zambian seeds to mature?
lol days? Environment is such a crucial part in harvest time I think anyone would be hard pressed to say in days. Sounding pure sativa I would say 10-14 weeks. Good luck

Professor my thoughts and concerns are definitely with you today. You are greatly appreciated.

I don't know that you'll need a dehumidifier. Do you plan on venting your room? Also if you vent your light I don't think you'll need an ac with just the one light. www.hempdepot.com has some good seeds (from what I hear). C-4 is an outstanding strain, flowers in under 45 days and is the biggest yielding strain I've worked with. I'd put my energy into setting your room up well, vent your light and keep some moving air in the room and you'll be fine. C02 would be your next purchase. Couple hundred dollars will buy you your tank and your regulator. It's easy math to get the right setup for keeping it at 1400ppm and it'll make a big differnce with this type of growing, flower faster, bigger yield, and you can keep your temps another ten degrees higher if you need to.

Start your seeds and when they are big enough to clone off of get some viable clones and then sex them. That will give you your mothers to work with. Let me know when your set and we'll walk through it together.

From what I've read it seemed that having a vertical light with a fan blowing up at it would stay cooler. But I'll take your advice since you have waaaaay more experience than me lol. And yes, I was definitely going to go with a pure indica strain, I was leaning towards this; http://www.amsterdammarijuanaseeds.com/Medijuana - feminized-marijuana-seeds.php. Seems like a great strain to start with, says it yields well, and grow difficulty is easy-moderate. So you're saying to do 18/6 until they're 8" tall, then switch over to 12/12? I will also be starting from seeds, since I don't live in a marijuana friendly state. I should be buying everything to start within a couple weeks, just waiting for a buddy to pay me. And also, I was looking into super-cropping/F-I-Ming and that seems to do a lot, but I know I should wait until it gets to that step to get into detail. So this is the list of things that I have so far that I need;

Magnum XXXL 8" Vent Hood
8" Max Fan
1000w HPS Bulb
1000w Digital Ballast
De-Humidifier
Humidifier
A/C Unit (have it already)
Botanicare Natures Blend Flower
Cactus Blend Soil
Hydroton
Misc. Organic Nutes
Seeds

When I start I will definitely start a grow journal, just a matter of time haha. Thanks for taking the time to help out man, really appreciated!

Kind of strange problem to have. If your using MH and they're not growing verticle I'd back my lights off a bit and see if they'll stretch. You're not using phosphload or something like that which is stopping verticle growth are you? Switch to you HPS when you go into flower and see what happens. You have some pics?

They are only about 8" tall and very bushy. So much that I need to dig into the plant to find sex (Still haven't found out sex).

It's not that I want tall plants, it's more that I would like to make sure all the plants get good light.

I'm worried that they are going to stay stumpy & the buds will be small & fat. I want big and fat :)

I was told to start using my HPS & this will help stretch. Would you say thats good advise?
Also,
Will they grow up once I get into flowering? Which I hope to start on the 11th.

I'll try and take a look.

Why have you had them on 12 since germinating? I would have had them on a full 24 under t5's until they had a bit of growth then harden them of under a MH at 18-6 to bring them up big enough to clone and sex.
I germ inbetween paper towels in a dark cupboard until they sprout. Then put into rapid rooters to get some roots going. A little olivias diluted is plenty to get them going. If you're still a soil person the rapid rooters can go directly into your soil. I would use a straight catus blend, you don't need to add anything, save your money. Once they pop in your soil I've found that 1 ounces of Botanicare Natures Blend per gallon of water works very well. You shouldn't need anything else except maybe a bit of ph adjustment. 8 to 10 days doing that will get you off to a very good start. At that point clone and sex.
Hey! my seedlings sprouted 7 days ago, do you think they are a little small? i haven't seen much new growth in the last 3 days??? I have them in a premium potting mix 40% perlite with a sprinkle of dolomite lime, in a flat white storage unit with a 250watt dual spectrum CFL. Watering every three days or so, PHing my water! I have had them on 12/12 since germing! Comments please! :shock:View attachment 2279898View attachment 2279899

Thyank you Mr Green. I agree, weeks is probably a better measurement of time. I love smoking sativas but hate growing them. You get spoiled with big yields and fast harvests. lol Do you have the genetics of the strain your growing? 60/40 indica perhaps? Ten weeks probably reasonable bet but thats just off the top of my head. don't hold me to it.

Only nutes I am using are the following:

CNS17 BLOOM 2-2-5
HYDROPLEX 0-10-6
Rapidstart 1-0.5-1

I have placed into flowering already (3 days in) so I am using my HPS now.

Here is a photo I took last week. Can't take a photo now, they are sleeping.

Prof MJ, i have a question for you. (Soil grow) I popped a bean in a paper towel and went straight into promix bx, it broke the soil 1/4", stopped cold in its track for 4 days. it didnt even shed the hull so i figure it damped off. There was a little bit of white fuzz at the soil line. So i'm starting over. As hard as it is to get $20 beans, when the next one comes out of the paper towel, what kind of medium should it go in? Rockwool, Jiffy puck, etc? I think the promix (with a little worm castings) is maybe staying to moist, so what would you suggest? Ive NEVER had any damping off problems and never really given it any thought to (or had any troubles in) the first couple weeks. Thanks in advance, its nice to have someone to ask.

I am looking for a cheap lightning method for indoor grow for only just 1-2 plants.
Pretty basic soil and miracle grow mix. First time growing.

I am aware that CFL are cheaper but im not sure what to look for. What do i use for flowering? VEGETATIVE? How many do i need?
Also HPS bulbs need a expensive ballast.
I was considering outdoor grow but its illegal and its going to be late August.

Any advice? Thanks for your time

Hi Professor,

I'm very new here, so I don't know you from before but I've always liked professors of all kinds, so I don't feel shy asking you a very newbie question. This is my first grow. After a couple of setbacks after testing my hydro equipment and finding some flaws, I now know have a system that's operational for my indoor grow. On Saturday I nervously planted two Jillybean seeds in rockwool. Soaked the rockwool first in water with weak Micro solution. Ph was good. Left the babies alone, but peeked today. Two pretty sprouts popping up about 1/4 inch.

I had watched a youtube video of a ph experiment with germination, and that feller kept the rockwool under wraps for 5 days before looking, and his sprouts had leaves (mine don't yet, obviously). He then kept the dome on but put the seedlings under a light.

At what point do I want to expose my babies to more light? Right now they're under a dome that's covered with tea towels, so it's pretty dark in there, but not pitch black. And how much light should they have? Initially I was thinking I'd keep them just in daylight/halogen room light until they grew too big for the dome, and then I'd put them in the bubble buckets with the MH light for the veg state.

Is that right? I'm in no rush here -- and I'd like to give the kids a robust start. My plan is to flower at around 30 inches and top once. As I said, it's my first grow so I don't want to try too hard, but I do want to do a good job of maximizing yield.

Thanks in advance!

Best,
KG

And today...I just lifted the towels to see what was going on, and now the shoots are 1/2 - 3/4 inch high. One has one little leaf, the other doesn't yet. That seems pretty vigorous to me! I touched the rockwool and it's still damp so I'm not adding anything there.

I'm will keep them under the towel until I hear some advice. Thanks!

Hello to all, after losing my wife several months ago I am now returning to try and help out those who seek my advice. After 43 years of cultivating I have uncovered some, but certainly not all of the questions/answers. If I can be of help in clearing up any questions you might have please feel free to ask.
Thanks and glad to be back.
Instead of posting my bio you can just check my profile.
Thanks Dana
Man, I feel for you and am sorry for your loss. Sounds like she was your soul mate. I cannot imagine life without my wife. After 2 failed marriages, she's a God send and a real doll. Thank you for all your help on here...

I have a question....When or is it safe to go back to the normal days and nights for my induced flowering outdoor plants. They clearing have fairly large buds and I have been covering them every night for a little over a month. There is alot of moisture dripping on them when I remove the cover in the morning....I just don't want them to go back to the veggie state...I have worked to hard for that to happen...I hope this makes sense to you...I really need help..if you have any questions or advice that would be great. Thanks

After germing I put my seeds in a mix of 1/3 soil, 1/3 perlite, and 1/3 mulch.I micro. the mulch to kill bugs and flush the mix twice.Would it help my starts if I were to mix some rooting powder with h2o and moisten the soil befor I put the seeds in? Would it help if I watered the soil with a mix of h2o and Mycorrhizal funge/microbes before putting the seeds in the soil? Or maybe add both? Thanks for any help.
