Problems With My Scope I Bought at Radioshack

HolaHola,

Alright so I bought that 60-100x scope from radioshack, first of all it's not an led light and sucks haha. For two it drains the batteries really fast as well.

ANYWAYS, I don't know if I just don't know what I'm looking at (new at using scope to look at trichs), or if it's the scope or what. It seems really blurry and honestly I can't tell much of a distinct difference between colors on them. I've tried a lot of different methods like lookin at them on the plant, taking a piece of and lining it up real steady, using high led lights with the normal light on it. It always just seems blurry and stuff.

Anyone got any say in this? I am planning on buying one of those usb 400x microscopes that are all HD and really nice, but can't for a while so yeah. And my eye sight is a perfect 20/20 so its not that haha.

Just seems like everyone elses pictures are so much more like, able to tell if they clear/cloudy/amber

Thanks,
AllDay

I bought a $3.50 led lighted 30x 25mm loupe off amazon and works like a charm. One of the most powerful 30x loupes I have ever seen...

ive bought the same scope from radio shack as well. the way i have mines is down to 60x and then adjust the secondary knob. as far as batteries goes mines last a long time. i havent changed it in over 3-4 months. and the light works just fine imo.

i have the same scope and have no problems with it at all, if your having a hard time using the scope on the plant, juts pluck a frosty leaf off or something and bring it home to view on a flat surface.

I own the same RS 60x100 scope and the way I use it, is to set it on a table with the leaf or bud under the opening. There is no movement this way and it's easier to adjust the focus this way. GL

Buy a plain 40X handheld scope. $15 on Amazon. Search AEM40X. 100X makes things way too blurry for most to use and even 60X is extreme magnification for your task.

also have the same scope. it works fine just like everyone else said. ive never had to replace the batteries on it yet and have owned for over a year. dont leave the light on lol.
just like bestbud said just bring it down to 60 and then adjust the other one which is focus. since you arent using a flat surface you will have to play with it. getting closer, moving away, all while using the focus. it sounds a lot harder than it is. really. give it another try. if im using it on the actual plant the light from hps is plenty bright. but if its off the plant i do also use a led light with the light it comes with because yes it doesnt work too well. and as for everyone elses pictures ur right. they obviously arent using the ten dollar scope from the shack. kinda hard taking a pic through the eyepiece and last i checked theres no usb port on it either lol. good luck

I bought that scope, and for me it magnifies more than needed. Any minuscule movement throws it put of wack. I went back and bought a 30x scope and it works much better for me, still magnifies enough to clearly see trichs without the focus and movement issues of the 60x scope

Since you've already spent your money, I'm sure you just want it to work. Try this:

Grab a nug off your plant, go some where that has lots of light and a table. Use a lint free cloth or a coffee filter to clean the lenses on your pocket scope, then take the nug and smash it up against your scope's front lens guard while pressing the scope firmly against your eye. It helps to use both hands to keep it stead. Slowly adjust the zoom. Sometimes it helps to hold your breath if you can't get the image steady. Once you have the zoom down, you can remove the nug and turn it around, then smash it back against the scope and look again. If your still having trouble, point the nug end towards a light bulb or use a tiny flash light pointed from the side.

It's not easy or fun, but with practice you can get it to work.

In the future, stay away from cheap glass. Even that shitty loupe whatss his name recommended. It's not really 30x, it's some cheap China knock off and sold in the toy section no less. Lots of companies lie and say their 10x loupe is a triplex or has 30x because people who don't know about loupes will fall for it and think it's a good deal. If you want a good deal on glass, buy a 10x Bausch and Lomb loupe. $35-$40 gets you a real triplex (three lenses fused together) with color corrected lenses and a leather case. It's crystal clear, even at the edges of the glass, and if you move it just a half inch from your nose it will give you 30x-40x magnification without the image flipping upside down.

I know how to work the thing. And I've tried the obvious putting it on a flat table or surface for a steady look and better job focusing. It just seems like the whole picture is kind of cloudy and blurry even at the most focused I can get it.

And besides that its more of the trichs, they generally all look the same. This is my third harvest and my last two I've had this problem. Maybe I just don't know what I'm looking for what all the pictures I see online the ambers cloudys and clears are pretty distinct and I just can't seem to tell.

Yeah, that's why I tossed mine in the trash. I like the loupes for in the field, but USB digital scopes are pretty sweet too. Just get one with a stand, it helps so much. My current one cost me $60 and it's 60x to 200x. It's not the same kind of detail as glass, but since it's on a bigger screen it's easier to see, especially when you can snap a pic. You just have to get used to the pixelation and ghosting with every tiny bit of movement.

I use a cheap generic 45x scope you will find on ebay by searching ( 45x scope). It has enough power to see the trichs for color and not too much to be unsteady. Takes practice though, you have to kind of weld the bud to the scope guard. They need to be touching slightly. Has a LED in it too, all for under 5 bucks shipped.
