Problem with HPS cool tube and the size of room

Okay so I just got a 400w HPS with a cool tube..it turns out that the cool tube is longer then I thought and it touches the sides of my grow room wallswhich doesn't give the heat anywhere to go.. So is there anything anybody can recommend? I have somewhere else I can put the plants but it will be in a open 12x10 room, will that be to much of an open space for such little light? I would appreciate any help I have the cfls back on em to keep them going for now but I wouldn't mind solving this problem and I cant seem to figure something out besides building a new room or buying a tent. ill post pictures if anybody thinks it will hel

Thanks

Cut holes in the wall slide the tube through and fit a small fan to one side. Lift and lower plants to suit the light.

Not a bad idea.. It fits in there now its just snug against the walls. I think that's almost what ill do tho. Just cut 3-4 holes every foot or so on one side, run a fan and cover up the holes not being used in the meantime having to move the light up to the next hole as the plants grow. I think I would rather do that then having to adjust the height of the buckets over time.
I didn't want to run a fan that bad but I didn't realize how hot these things got so it looks like that's what I will do. Sounds a lot better then building a new one or buying a $300 tent which will have to be vented anyway for another $50 because of the heat.

Cooltubes are pointless if they aren't being cooled mate, I've even seen 6" computer case fans work well. Cut a slot in ur wall from where the tube will sit at its lowest point to where it will sit at its highest. Then use Mylar or whatever to cover the slot

Yeah I didn't really know what the idea of the cool tube was until now. I picked up the set for $125 which seemed like deal compared to other hps systems.. I know now the point is to vent it but I don't usually like to mess with anything I have to wire myself so I might start the search for a reflector to avoid the wiring.

If you're talking about wiring for your fan, not all fans come unwired. If your talking about powering your fan you can run it from a normal 13a socket no bother

No I was thinking I would have to wire the fan. I didn't know they have ones pre wired that you can just plug into an outlet because I have never seen those ones until just a minute ago when I looked it up.. What I meant was I was just going to get a reflector because I didn't want to wire the duct fan for the cool tube but if I can get one pre wired I will probably just do that. It will probably be cheaper then a reflector plus heat wont be as much of a problem.
Your first idea is starting to make the most sense to me now.
So what I am going to do is cut 1 hole on each side near the top(fan on one side and duct pipe out the other) and just stack some 2x4s to raise the plant buckets up. That way I can remove 1 or 2 at a time as the plants get bigger.

I appreciate the help here tho I would have been forever trying to figure this out. When I first posted this question I didn't even know you were supposed to have a fan blowing through I just figured the tube itself was to protect the plants from the heat of the bulb if it was to close. Keep in mind I just finished my first cfl grow and I just seen a deal on a hps set up and took it without really knowing about the massive amount of heat it gives off and having to run duct work and all. Not that I mind its justr all new to me and I had to figure this out somehow so I appreciate it.

Any idea on which side I should put the fan on? or does it not matter?

You want to blow cool air over the rounded end of the bulb. Sucking warm air could cause ur fan to cut out , a small airleak in ur cooltube duct could allow smelly air to be sucked out through your cooltube, and also pushing cool air over the wired side of the bulb creates more turbulence therefor slower airflow and less efficient at cooling the bulb. Can I just ask do you have some sort of odour control ? Carbon scrubber/filter or ozone generator ?

Okay, right on and nope nothing for odor yet. I think I seen a fan and carbon scrubber combo or something when I was looking up fans and it was like 200 bucks or so. The fan and everything will probably be just over $50. As much as I would like to eliminate some of the odor I wouldn't spend that much for it.
