Problem With A 7ft Plant

i have a skunk plant that i believe i started this plant when it was about 3ft tall in flowering cause its way to tall now
its actually burning the tops and im thinking cause of it being so big its cluttered in the closet so i was thinkin of bringin it outside
the problem is its been in flowering stage for 5 weeks now with very lil bud growth and it looks like its gonna do the same thing as my last sativa grow when it got so big it ended up dying from the roots being clogged ,(from what people told me on here anyway)
it wouldnt soak up any more water and just died
anyway its a hydro grow so question one is what will happen to it if i put it outside cause its still vegetive light grow outside so it will start vegging again
and question two is can i plant this right in the ground even though it was a hydro grow?
thanks for all replys

It will stress the fuck out of the plant. Putting it directly into the ground will be further stress, and very possibly kill it. Coulda shoulda woulda, but when will you learn your lesson? You should have started it much earlier.... or, just opt for an indica. I have never, ever, EVER had an indoor plant get that tall, and I have had some UNRULY hydro grows.

Try tying it down a bit each day till it's slightly arched (don't go extreme and snap it). Gradually bind it with ropes little by little. Thats the best you can do. Seriously though a 3 foot tall plant will end up being 6-7 feet tall by the end of fruiting (or more if you have crazy stretching). Since you seem to have limited ceiling space, fruit your plants when they're about 1 to 1.5 feet tall. That should yield a 3-4 foot tall plant.

wow, you need at least 1 gallon per 1' of growth so you should be in a 7 gallon bucket at minimum. anything smaller will give you a root bound plant that doesn't produce squat. how can it when the roots can't feed the plant? i would grow outside from day one if i had that option.

Unless you have a 1000w light, you don't want your plants getting that tall and even still your only going to get so much use out of the light so far down. Reflective surfaces help, but the majority of your plant is not getting the light it needs while the tops are getting burned.

That's why you need to hone your topping skills. When done right topping doesn't just give you 2 tops, where before there was only 1. When used correctly, it also prevents you plants from getting too tall. When you are an expert with topping you can completely control the height of your canopy of plants. It doesn't matter if you have 3 plants, or 300, you should be able to control the height of your plants canopy just by using proper topping techniques.

Especially when you are growing Sativa, or Sativa dominant strains who grow very fast, you must master the art of the top. With a Sativa you should have 6 - 20 (even more with some methods) tops depending on how long you veg and the strain.

You can also use "Bush Master" by Humboldt Countys Own or "Phosphorload" by Dutch Master (I think). These are to be used within the first 3 weeks of flower, but they effectively stop all vertical growth and signal the plant to "bush out" creating more budding sites, and horizontal growth instead of vertical.

I have always wondered about using those products before flower to stop vertical growth as well, but haven't had a chance to test that out yet.

I have a room full of 6 footers now and always have! my scrog is 4 foot off the floor and when its full i start flowering and they stretch to 6 ft. if you have the room its the way i like to do it for a better yield and much bigger tops!

oh and i forgot to mention that i grow white widow and queen. mostly all indica strain exept the queen which gets much taller and has to be tied down

so the more you top the bushier the plant? which would make sense considering i only topped that skunk 3 times
i did a test with two strains to see the difference in topping where i used the skunk strain and a super silver haze strain where i only topped the skunk three times and topped the hell out of the haze and the haze right now is full with many colas and not tall
even though the haze is a mix of indica and sative where the skunk is mostly sativa dominent
i guess i should of did it the other way around where i should of topped the sativa a bunch of times and topped the mix a couple
but anyway im a newbie and this is a good way of learning
so again thanks for your help guys

Check out the link in my sig for some pointers on canopy control.... I'm doing a SSH that I absolutely could not manage though. She was pumping out 4-5 inches a day during her stretch, I did my best to manage her but she's out of control now lol. I hear you, I absolutely love sativa smoke but some strains can be a pain in the ass to flower. Pure Power Plant is a good sativa with a great yield and minimal stretch, check her out for a nice sativa option. My all time fav!
