so i dont know how many of you out there grow in this stuff, and i dont know if the quality of the batch that i got sucked or something, but i swear... this shit is TERRIBLE avoid it at all costs! i swear this stuff is KILLING my plants left right and center. Never ending PH issues /ph lockout issues nutrient uptake issues... before i was growing in sunshine #4 and absolutely loved it... but its only available seasonally here. Any have suggestions on a different media to try?

Regular promix, in the white and black plastic. cut that with more perlite. i like to go 25% perlite added in. just lets the water drain better. I cant afford a good soil Ph tester, and I think cheap ones are unreliable, just Ph water and run with it.

i think op is having just bad luck seems promix HP looks pretty good dont you i would probably add some cow manure or some shrimp compost with it other then that should work fine

pretty much, i think i just got a bad few bales/old bales... no matter how much flushing i do etc the ph is all over the place. pain in the ass i tell yah.
if i had to guess the limestone that was used was just SHIT quality.

It's not so much that the quality of the limestone is shit, they simply don't add enough to be fully effective. Enough to put it on the label and that's about it.

Premier's peat moss is the best available IMO. I've used it for over 35 years and could really tell a difference when I had to use another brand. I make my own mix from scratch.

It's expensive as shit too. A bale of peatmoss from lowes (basically knock off promix) is $10. Either way, no matter which I bought I'd add lime to it. Peat's pH is like 4-4.5.

I use ProMix BX; it's probably not much better. I normally use Subcools "super soil" mix but I was pressed for time. The day after I got my stuff mixed up (in the dark), it snowed and has snowed damn near every day since. You definitely have to add nutes and amendments to it.
