Prices vs Indoor vs Outdoor

I have never had the experience yet to have grown outside. I was reading that outdoor is not as potent as indoor because of the lack of being able to have total control over the plants. Does this decrease the price vs indoor grown bud?

outdoor proper grown genetics are just has good has the same strain indoors. outside tends to be a little darker colored. prices wholesale are usually cheaper for outdoor grown dank, though it all averages 20 a g on the street at retail prices

in Nor Cal you can easily get 3k for a lb of B+ indoor where A+ out gets you maybe 2200 but more like 1800

WoW... learn something new everyday!! why is that?? imo. and i am a longtime smoker but i can say ive only had the best green in maybe 5 percent of my smoking years. I know pathetic right? But to me i always enjoyed smoking outdoor. maybe its just me but it seemed tastier and usually had more of a bag appeal to me. but then again I am no expert in any way:bigjoint:

We can go on & on about indoor vs outdoor. Which is bette!? But if you ask an honest to goodness 'cannabis connoisseur', 8 outta ten times he's gonna pick the outdoor stuff. There is no denying that indoor looks superior in all facets to outdoor cannabis. What makes me so fond of outdoor cannabis is it's ability to take on the smells of it's surroundings. For instance, a good Hawaiian sativa grown next to a Hayden Mango tree is gonna smell like Hayden Mangos, and that's a good thing! As a matter of fact, that's how the first mango strain appeared on the cannabis sceen! Hey, even the self proclaimed "King of Cannabis", Aryan says the best smoke is grown outside!

the price all depends on the quality of the herb. if you grow shite you will not get top money and the same goes for indoors.

it all goes back to the quality of the bud...when some kid buys a bag he's not gonna know if it was grown indoor or outdoor only the grower knows that and maybe the middleman if he doesn't get lied to. in all honesty if i had a pound of outdoor grown danks i'd sell it for just as much as the indoor grown they will sell too as long as they have the bag appeal and smoke good.

One of the clubs that I goto had two jars one full of indoor grown afgani and other outdoor afgani, i bought a little of both and the indoor stuff was more peachfuzzy, as if the elements have been gentle with it. the outdoor weed's leaves were thicker, and more "wavy" i guess, less trichs, slightly denser bud

when i smoked some of the outdoor stuff it was a headrushy energetic high
the indoor stuff was a little bit more potent but more of a slow release thinking high

indoor stuff sold for more then outdoor, prob cause it had more aroma

I grow outdoor and you can see it in my journal. I started my grow thinking I could sell the extra to dispensary. I even have friends who have close friends who either manage or own dispensaries. I can tell you it is like this and some already said it: Looks are everything. I have smoked both indoor and outdoor but if its not grown by the same person with the same experience in both indoor and out door there will be a difference in potency and flavor. If you look in my 2010 thread in my sig I took samples to other growers and had them give me a smoke report.

I only had one where everyone agree was the best looking and smelling (traits used in indoor sales pitches). If its frosty and smells like skunk or pine you are in. I know this is dank stuff because the testers told me and I tried all of it myself. If you look at it under a scope it is covered in crystals but its not all frosty with the naked eye except the one strain.

It was interesting to me that each tester had their favorite strain

Bottom line is the dispensaries dont want to have to let people try each strain before buying because its easier to sell strains based on visual frostiness and smell.

Hope I didnt sound bitter because Im not in it for the $. This was just my experience and the experience of 2 other growers I know.

ya its all on bag appeal like everyone people are saying if it looks good and smells good your gonna get more for it, think about it if you buy a nice ass sack of weed is it gonna matter weather its indoor or out, if its just as good who cares.

Could it be a generational thing?

Up here in N.Cal it's all about aroma and how rock hard the nugs are, but things are slowly changing. One of my coworkers who also works part time for a dispensary is a 24yr old self proclaimed connoisseur, he's grown both ways and swears that the quality of indoor grown cannabis cannot be matched by an outdoor grow. I strongly disagreed and told him that if outdoor plants are optimally grown you can't beat mother nature, he laughed and told me I was stuck on old school!
So this past May I had him give me a couple of his indoor Blue Dream clones so I could grow his own plants outdoors and we both would see who was right come harvest time..

Well, I harvested both of his plants almost 2 weeks ago and gave him a couple of huge buds to critique, he came by my place the next morning and this is what he said:

"The outdoor buds are much tighter than he thought they would be but not as tight as his indoor buds but they seem to have more of a hairy look.
The smell he said was a little stronger with the indoor.
The taste was different between the two, neither was better or worse he said, just that they were different.
And when it came to the high, he said he was 100% wrong about outdoor not standing up to indoor grows, he also went on about how the outdoor was more stoney and lasted noticeably longer and would I help him next spring on an outdoor grow".

I believe many people nowadays are so caught up on the "rock hard nug" and aesthetics that they're missing the most important factor of why we all smoke the stuff.
I also think most 420 farmers these days are indoor growers who either cannot grow outside or are just too used to the indoor scene to break that habit come spring time.

The best weed I've ever smoked was grown outside. Hands down.

i think, if you have the plants where you can tend them everyday and its a good summer.

then outdoors would easily beat indoors, no question.

I was just thinking about this the other day , Since greenhouse herb is getting so dialed in here in cali and when i say i dialed in i mean i know a few growers who have now grown out some greenhouse that looks like not just indoor but good fuckin indoor. In that aspect what its doing for mid-high grade indoor market is troubling to say the least... lol im an all indoor grower this cheap ass good lookin greenhouse is killin me Lol !

I like outdoor better too, but I want to comment on the price thing. Pretty much anywhere in the country other than Cali, it strictly depends on quality, period. If it's outdoor, and it's fire, it'll pull the same price as indoor. Herte in Cai, wholesale prices on outdoor is falling rediculously low. The reason this is happening, and the indoor prices are staying up is simple. There are many many more new legal growers here in Cali every year, and the market is completely flooded at harvest time. Now, you got all these people that never grew before, they put little money or effort, or skill into the grow, and the average quality of outdoor bud has fallen waaaay off. So you got theses people going down to the clubs with their stuff, and selling it for 7-800 bucks a lb!! With that going on, even the best grown, most desirable strains are only fetching 1500 lb at harvest, and that's IF it's perfect, and it's a strain they want. So it brings the wholesale market for outdoor down to shit until all the new growers run out.
The other obvious reason indoor is more expensive is the growersd have much more invested (usually) in their set-ups for alot less yield. They HAVE to geta certain amount to make anything, so, the prices stay up.
That simple!!
oh and jahbrudda: your definitly on to something there too.
