Before I get jumped all over for the fact there are very similar threads on this site, I have not yet found one that asks for comparison pricing and/or individuals opinions on the top of Medicinal vs Recreational buds. I have seen that many people have posted on different threads about the price they pay for buds, with many commenting the cost of there grow, etc. I'd like to take the topic a little bit further.

When looking for quality buds in your area, and the purpose of which individuals are purchasing it, do you see price differences for the retail cost of buds being bought for medicinal reason vs those that are being bought for recreational reasons? What is the average price difference, if any, that you see in your area for med vs rec?

Also, as growers, caretakers, etc, do you feel that it is unjust to charge a patient the same price or more for a product they truly need in comparison to someone using strictly for recreational reasons? A few friends and I have been discussing this topic lately as we are in a state with crappy medical laws in regards to cannabis, but it is still illegal for recreational.

The base of our discussion is that due to our states limited options for medical cannabis, i.e. no plant matter, we have noticed that medical prices seem much higher when compared to black market prices, and this has caused us to wonder what the comparison is like in other states/countries.

If there is anyone that would like to comment on there knowledge within there state/country it would be great to be able to expand our understanding and discussion. If you do choose to reply, please include the following:

In your state:
1. What is the legal status/regulations of medical/recreational marijuana? (yes i know its federally illegal in the US but for sake of conversation please base it off of your state regulations only or other country regulations)
2. What is the going rate of medicinal vs. recreational?
3. In your opinion, is it justifiable to charge someone using cannabis as medicine the same as someone who chooses to use it recreationally?
4. Based on your answer to #3, what do you think a fair prices for medicine/recreational buds is?

Just looking for some other peoples opinions and thoughts on the matter of discussion.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that all comments should be strictly for discussion purposes. This is not a place to promote your grows, to attempt to buy/sell anything, etc.

***Admins - I believe these questions fall within the rules of RIU and by no means am looking for anyone to promote individual sales, etc. All questions, comments, etc are intended to be geared towards discussion only. If in violations of any rule, please delete thread and pm of infractions, etc.***

I live in a med state, no rec, 6 plants in flower, 12 in veg

If youngo to a dispensary your getting raoed in price-$17-$22 a gram, $57 a 8th, about $415 an ounce. If you have a caregiver then your paying anywhere between $150-$250 an ounce. If buying from black market anywhere from $175-$250 an ounce.

Not sure about this one... When getting from a dispensary you are guaranteed to not have any bug poop or mold or anything like that in it, when getting from a caregiver or black market you have to trust the source... I guess a little more from a dispensary is ok but not how bad they tax ATM.

About $200 an ounce

Thanks for the input on the information from your area. The state that I live and speaking to the few people I know who qualify for medical use, are paying 3-4 times the prices for "legal medicine" in comparison to the black market equivalent. I do agree in medical instances as you stated you don't have the worries of bugs, mold, etc and obviously extracts are typically more expensive then straight buds, however 3-4 times the cost seems out of hand. Granted my home states laws are jacked anyways and are more so a laughing stock in regards to even medical legalization.

What's crazy is that the dispensary is always packed with people, I have had to wait 90 minutes before( I go get some Thai food and come back lol) its crazy. I only go when Im totally out and I only grab a gram or 2 to hold me over to the next day.
They do have a different special every day though, like Tuesdays is "2 for Tuesday" where you buy 1 gram get one free, or on wendsdays it's something like buy 1 gram keif get 1 half off, shit like that.
Extracts are still illigal so I'd you want oil you gotta go in the black market of blast you're own

@tntgreen13 what state? I'm in Maine, we have awesome MMJ laws imo
Currently I am living in MN, which as I stated in my opinion has in a lot of ways made a joke out of it. It's offered by only 2 state approved manufacturers, can only come in extract forms such as oils, capsules, etc, and absolutely no plant matter or growing for patient use. I mean there are definitely the positive stories that have come from it, but one guy I have spoke with on a few occasions spent almost 3 months working with one of the approved providers to figure out the best treatment option. He states that his $2,000/month legal medication is less affective then his black market option that runs about $400/month.

Ew that's poopy laws. Hopefully they will get better, but since 2 company's have it on lock they are going to do everything they can to keep it that way.

When I lived in CT a few years back theybhad just approved MMJ but it hadn't gone into effect yet, they were talking about having to go to a pharmacy and picknup your MMJ like a normal script, no patient growing... Lame sauce

That and there is only a small list of qualified medical conditions that qualify. They are expanding that list slightly, but I know a good family friend who are currently prescribed like 100 or 120 10mg Percs, plus time released morphine pills, and there family gets to sit buy and watch them waste away because at this point the idea/thought of MMJ is not even a possibility for him.

Yup, only two state approved producers, and even to apply for the opportunity it was, I believe, a $25,000 application fee.

Maine has some cool laws.

Totally the patients choice if they want to go to a dispensary, a private caregiver or grow their own, or you can do a combo of all three, but let's say you want to grow your own and go to a dispensary, you have to "give" the dispensary asome of tour plants, depending in how many you gibe them depends on how much you can buy in every 2 week period, you are allowed to buy 2 ounces every 2 weeks max, but say you grow 3 plants and "give" the dispensary 3, then the amount you can purxhace is less.
You are allowed to posses up to two ounces of ready to use MMJ, but you can have up to 8 pounds of not ready MMJ, all you do is lable everything over 2 ounces as "curing" or " donation" and its all good. And I haven't heard of a single MMJ patient that grows their own ever getting their grow checked up on.

I hope there are some major changes here in the relatively near future, but still I see more and more people moving to either legalized states or at least to states with more MMJ options, etc. Unfortunately, packing up and moving to a completely new area, and basically starting completely over isn't always an option, and it seems as if those that could possibly benefit the most are those that it is often hardest to move out of state.

I would be much happier seeing similar laws in MN, unfortunately I honestly don't see it changing that dramatically any time soon.

Ugh don't get me started on how docs are pumping people full of pain killers but saying no to MMJ... I'll get mad

That's unfortunately the "common" answer to so many diagnoses these days. To make matters worse, the specific individual is on a "lifelong pain contract" so they have to submit to random UA and one failed test and they are truly SOL. However, keep passing the randoms and they just keep handing them out...

You are in the wrong section for a serious debate.

Because, all the answers have been given before. It gets annoying as fuck having to answer the same retarded questions every single day. "When should I flush?" "Y r my plants yellowed?" "Can I feed with piss?" People stumble in and expect to learn everything there is to know about growing in a week, and get pissed off when they aren't immediately spoon fed the info.
