Keep your temperatures and humidity in control, remove the conditions for pests and disease.
Prevention
Cultural methods: Keep your grow area clean. Do not bring plants into your grow area that have been kept outside. Sterilize all tools used in the grow area. Be sure to clean the inside of your grow tent before introducing new plants, remove all plant debris from the area.
Physical control methods: Mulches, filters on intake vents, aluminum foil, grafting tape, duct tape, whatever.
Chemical prevention methods: Neem and horticultural oil, pyrethrins, citic acid
Use an emulsifier or surfactant to ensure even spread.
Spray your plants at night time only, and be sure that there are fans on your foliage to ensure that the solution dries before your lights switch back on.
A citric-acid based rinse such as Nuke Em or Dr Zymes. Doing a weekly or biweekly leaf rinse with such a product can help prevent insect outbreaks as well as powdery mildew outbreaks.
Biological control methods: Bti for fungus gnats, Btk for outdoor caterpillars, nematodes, predatory insects, hyperparasitic fungi, learn how to use them in conjunction with chemicals.
Treatment
The most important thing after prevention is monitoring. If you have taken proper preventative measures and you notice a growing population, it is time to be more aggressive.
