Prescription Drugs

If you're trying to tell me you didn't know not to quit cold turkey, you are an outright FUCKIN LIAR! Either that or you didn't read the government mandated safety sheet that came with the prescription.

I tried stopping about 3 months into the program. I wasn't on a huge dosage at the time. 75mg. I did not expect to be quite so dependent at that point on a relatively low dose (only 2x the minimum). Had pretty painful headaches after 2 days. 3 days and I had a break where I got into a horrible fight with a good friend over nothing. *edit* My doctor outright lied to me more than a few times about these drugs, which also did not help.

Why are you getting angry?

You called paxil "really dangerous". Why? Because of a drug similar to that, which you took, without regard to directions.
You're spreading misinformation IMO about a drug you didn't even take.

Why are you not following directions, then getting mad at your doctor?

I was taking one 75mg pill. What was I supposed to do, break it open and start banging half pill lines? Take it every few days? I started to have side effects after 2 days only. I was a teenager at the time anyway and I had much faith in my doctors advice. I asked specifically about side effects, she listed some, but not all. She ignored sexual side effects, she neglected to tell me about the potential for a psychotic break, and also neglected to inform of the addictive nature and the dangers of going off them cold turkey, even though I specifically asked her what all the side effects were.

Anyway, you're obviously upset I called you on your claim about safety. Take shit less personally and don't speak if you aren't certain. That's all I can offer you.

No, you call your doctors office and get a prescription for a different dose. WTF?
And it wasn't paxil you were taking if it was a 75 mg pill.
Since it wasn't paxil you were taking incorrectly, how can you make claims about it?

The funniest part is that the guy who didn't follow the directions is telling ME about safety. LOL!

Why would anyone take a drug which only makes you feel better if there's even a trillionth of a chance you die? I can see if a drug makes it so you don't die of a disease, like diabetes.

If you take drugs for mental stability, and can't cope without, you're a pussy. Sorry, but it's the truth. I wish more than anything my constant mania would go away. It's always there. It can be mixed with depression and you don't know who you are. There are times I just sit thinking nothing or else I want to kill myself.

I never once get one moment of peace. My head is constantly screaming. But it's all in my head. If I fight it hard enough, I can barely manage. 99% of you would kill yourself in ten minutes or less with my mildest symptoms.

Do you see people who aren't really there who you only see and who talk to you? Even when you don't actually see them, they talk to you. They try to convince you to do things you don't want. All the whole time you must tell yourself, it's not real. Now tell me anyone here NEEDS this Paxil, Effexor, Zoloft, Kolonopin, etc. Really?

I was taking Effexor, a different SSRI. I said this already. You're not even reading what I'm writing.

When I had my first break I attempted to jump from a very high building only to have a friend stop me (by tackling me and having others help hold me down), I was not a suicidal person, the reason I was on them was because I was going through a lot at that period of time and I didn't have an easy time getting up going in the morning, not because I was suicidal. This occured within 2 weeks of starting my treatment.

There are plenty of studies indicating SSRI's cause psychotic breaks. And those are dangerous things, not only to the patient, but also to others. Your attempts to downplay the dangers of dangerous drugs isn't really all that smart IMO.

I could say cocaine isn't really that bad because I haven't died from a heart attack or had a psychotic episode yet and I've been doing it forever (I'm not for the record, this is a hypothetical), but it wouldn't be true.

It also wouldn't be true if I said cocaine was a completely useless drug that has no potential benefits (for some people in very specific circumstances, ie: nasal surgery).

Why would anyone take a drug which only makes you feel better if there's even a trillionth of a chance you die?

Because if I don't take it, there's a 1 in 10 chance somebody ELSE will die. Have you ever seen uncontrollable rage brought on by severe anxiety?..........I have. It not only "makes me feel better", it makes me functional.

Guess I'm a pussy. Good luck with the "mannin' up" approach to your demons.

I'm glad the Paxil works for you. I will suggest trying to get a high CBD strain in the future. That Paxil isn't really that great for you in the long run and IMO, because there aren't that many long term studies done, you are messing with your brain chemistry in an unpredictable fashion long term (Just because you didn't have a break in your time thus far, doesn't mean it won't happen in the future, or other bad side effects, just my opinion as it took me quite a while to recover from going off my Effexor and I was only using it a few years).

I'm reading it. Don't talk about paxil if you don't have knowledge of said drug. Not every SSRI is the same, or there would be only one.
Plus, I would take you a little more seriously if you didn't blame the doctor for your ignorance. Read the fuckin directions.
Have you ever thought that the type of people that use these drugs are more prone to psychotic episodes? Most of them have depression, high anxiety, or are suicidal.(among others)

Do you smoke weed, Canna? And if you do, does it alleviate your symptoms or exacerbate them? I'm genuinely curious :leaf:

And Kelly, does cannabis make your anxiety worse? Does it do any good for you? :peace:

How about you, OGEvilgenius?

All SSRI's have similar effects and side effects. Paxil is known to do this, this is established in the medical community.

What are the possible side effects of paroxetine (Paxil, Paxil CR, Pexeva)?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: skin rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Contact your doctor promptly if you have any of the following side effects, especially if they are new symptoms or if they get worse: mood changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, agitation, aggressiveness, severe restlessness, mania (mental and/or physical hyperactivity), thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself.

The later side effects are part and parcel with the symptoms of a psychotic break. Of course they wouldn't ever list 'if you start to experience a psychotic episode, call your doctor' because many people don't know what that is or how to recognize it.

Plus, I would take you a little more seriously if you didn't blame the doctor for your ignorance. Read the fuckin directions.

Did you read the part where I was a teenager? I agree, I should have read the directions. The fact I did not does not diminish my point in any way. By the way, there is only one lower dosage than what I was taking and given the reaction I had, there's little doubt it would have been not much different had I tried to quit from the lowest possible dose. I was very sensitive to these drugs (a lot of people are).

Have you ever thought that the type of people that use these drugs are more prone to psychotic episodes? Most of them have depression, high anxiety, or are suicidal.(among others)

This isn't what all of the studies on these drugs have indicated though. They have correlated the intake of the drug with psychotic episodes (in which behavior becomes very unpredictable).

I'm telling you that I would probably end up killing someone, in time, if not taking paxil. Yet, you are telling me the dangers of paxil. My danger trumps yours!

Do you see what I'm saying about Effexor?....No? That's because I've never taken it. How can I comment on a drug I've never taken?

I doubt it, although I'm sure that it benefits your symptoms for the time being. Like I said, find some high CBD ganja.

How do doctors prescribe drugs they've never taken before?

You don't understand.
I'm on a constant break without paxil.
I take the paxil to stop the break.
I'm very sure paxil won't throw anything my way that I haven't seen before I started taking paxil.
A psychotic break(brought on by paxil) would only send me back to GO......collect $200.

And Kelly, does cannabis make your anxiety worse? Does it do any good for you? :peace:

No, not even high thc, low cbd strains. Oh yah......works good. Some better than others.
As far as social anxiety, weed is the cats ass.

It's ironic that we're discussing side effects here. I'm prescribed weed for nerve damage, but the anxiety relief is my favorite side effect.;-)

Cannabis makes most every symptom I suffer from go away. With the exception of high and low bloodsugars, and even then I'm pretty convinced that it helps regulate my sugars and stabilize them at least (although it's no insulin replacement).

I think you are confusing your state of mind with psychosis. Anxiety and psychosis are very different things. It may be hard to manage, but it isn't a psychotic episode. If you were having psychotic episodes without any pharmaceutical influence *the doctor who prescribed the Paxil to you would have treated you differently.

Like I said, I'm glad it works for you. But also beware of side effects.
