Preparing Transplant Soil

I read on a few places it's better to prepare your soil in your bigger pots a few days before you actually transplant...

Is this necessary? How is it beneficial, if so?

I don't see how that would make any difference in the growth of the plant or the transplanting process... I just do it all at once.. transplant when the soil is dry to prevent damaging the roots.
