Premature sexing - Pre-sexing your plant - Early sexing

I have used this method in the past and it works well. But, it is not convenient and quite the pain in the butt!!!

You take a thick paper bag and make a sleeve to cover one of the big fan leaves. You put it on for 12 hours so it receives 12 hours of lights and is covered for 12 hours. That node where the fan leaf is attached to the main stem will show sex prematurely. I used to plant a little post in the pot and tie the sleeve to the post in order to support its weight and avoid damage to the fan leaf.

I figured it was common knowledge but I have seen a lot thread around the topic of finding out the plant's sex and I have not seen this method mentionned anywhere...

I find it easier to pay for feminized seeds and/or make clones than using regular seeds, but it's not possible for everyone. In the case you only grow one at a time, this is not too painful to do and it can save you time by enabling you to find out if you have a male and start over earlier rather than later.

I hope this can help someone...

Cheers

i read you can take a cutting from a vegging plant, put it in a glass of water under 12/12 and it will flower. i guess because the plant is still alive technically it can recognize the photoperiod. i have yet to try it myself tho

either method works, however, you can just put the entire plant in 12/12 for a week or two and see what sex it is, then put it back in veg for whatever period you like. It will stop sexing and go back to veg and the plant will be fine. You might lose a little bit of size because of the time it takes, but your plant will be fine and you'll know sex before you spend 2 months vegging.

sounds like a good idea, but a bit of ball ache. but doable if it works
since males typically show sex first, its not to much of a problem to pick out males a week or so into flower
as they say, there's more than one way to skin a cat :leaf:

Yea, and its really nice to pick out males early so they dont waste space in your grow room. It's worth it turning it to 12/12 as soon as they are ready to veg and see what sex they are, get rid of the males, then let the females have all the light for the 18/6.
