Yes plants will show sex in veg when they are mature. Females will pop that white hair when they are mature, but time deppends on the strain. They won't start to flower however untill they get in a light cycle that is less than 15 hrs on.

don't look for 'preflowers'

you'll kill yourself looking, they're tiny and look the same for males and females... that drawing exagerates the difference....

look for white hairs or 'balls'.... there's no other way to put it, a female will start getting white hairs... simple....

that's what you want to see....

This is my first medical grow. I have about 10 strains of moms, 2 strains of teens, 2 different strains in flower, and with all of them I've seen preflowers in veg.

One of the strains is a DJ short Blueberry grown from seed, has pistils with hairs all over the place showing around the 8th node. I have a Grand Daddy Purple from seed that showed her preflower at the 7th node in veg. I had 4 males from seed when I started and I thought it was very obvious. Ball on a stick is a boy, teardrop shape between stock and petioles is a girl(socaliboy's pic is an excellent example +rep). In my experience the ball on a stick is more closer to stem then petiole.

I've also noticed with different strains the preflowers can look different.

Good Luck!
