ppm meter ?

I have a ph meter and just got a ppm meter. one of the cheap pen type, but better than nothing. im growing in happy frog soil. what I was wondering is can I calibrate the ppm pen with the same 7.0 solution that I use for the ph meter, or do I need a different solution? tryin to get all this calibrating shit down is a pain in the ass, but im trying to take it all in the correct way!!

I'd like to known as well.. But when I bought 4 and 7 solution he tried to sell me some other shit
.so I'm pretty sure there's something else to calibrate that

I have blue lab combo meter. I calibrate the ph pen with 7.0 and 4.0 bottles liquids. And a different liquid for the ppm meter. My ppm meter can't be calibrated only tested for accuracy.

2.7777 conductivity fluid or something is for testing the ppm meter. Yours might be able to be calibrated like the ph portion. Mine is not. And sure you know but I destroyed my pen meter by leaving the cap off and the probe drying out. My blue lab had a container filled with storage solution that encases the ph probe. The ppm meter need to be cleaned and this lotion like liquid applied then rinsed off. Untill there is a film over the sensors and the water does not bead up

I keep my ph pen in a shot type glass with the 7.0 solution in it. so it never gets dry, and ill probably do the same with the ppm pen. maybe?

It depends on your meter. My inexpensive HM meter uses the 1000 NaCl scale.

It seems like you could make your own solution. 1g of salt in 1 liter of distilled water is 1000 parts per million.

I've never heard of TDS meters being kept wet. Mine is left uncapped and dry.

Regarding your PH pen, all you need to do is rinse it under tap water then cap it. You should have some KCl storage solution. This can help it hold its calibration. You'll want some probe cleaning solution. The probe can get slime which affects its operation. I clean mine every 4-6 months.

I think KCl storage solution is for longer-term storage. I use mine every couple days, so rinse and cap seems good enough. Maybe every 4-6 uses I'll put a few drops of KCl in the cap.

I've used two inexpensive PH meters for over a year. So, it must be ok to do what I'm doing.

I bought some storing solution for like 2-3 from hydroponic store and a sponge from dollar store and damped it n stuffed it in the lod..it stays moist foreverrrr.

He tried selling me some stuff for ppm but I said na..so I take it I can't use my 4 n 7 solutions

I have a hanna ph pen, never put a cap on it, first I've heard of the probe drying out? I just toss it around. It's always within a .10 when I check calibration.

And If you can even calibrate your ppm meter it has to a specific solution. The manual should tell you how to check/calibrate it.

You might want to start treating that ph probe a little better bud. Standard practice is to keep it hydrated, and NOT toss it around. Lol. Really though

As the previous poster said, there will be a specific calibrating solution you need to use. Different meters, use dif solutions.

The ppm solution is different. It's 1500 ppm stranded reference solution and is for calibration not storage. For the ph pen do what az said. I just use tap water for storage though as long as it doesn't dry out It's fine but keep some ref solution for calibration and check it every time you use it. Those millwakies aren't that great at keeping cal. I would suggest getting something else. I ran into all kind of problems on my first run because of one of those shitty meters my second run i got a bluelab and been loving it scince

Let that be a testimate to Hanna products. Lol
It always damn near on whenever I re-calibrate it. From my experience from a past job is that pH probes aren't as delicate as some apparently think. Seen them used to test all kinds of nasty, hot acidic and alkaline products, not get cleaned off and just thrown in some 4pH buffer solution. Unless they break or won't re-calibrate they're good.
